Sarah Michelle Gellar shares emotional statement to fans after Buffy return news
Sarah Michelle Gellar has finally spoken up about the recent news concerning the comeback of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
On Instagram, the actor who portrayed the main character in the cherished series from 1997 to 2003, posted a heartfelt message indicating that a revival of the show is intended “for all the fans”. (In a more conversational tone: The actor who played our favorite character from the beloved ’90s series mentioned on Instagram that if there’s a return of the show, it would be for us fans.)
She started off with a light tone, saying, “I suspect there may be some news you’ve picked up this week, but it seems we haven’t caught up recently.
Later on, Gellar detailed the multi-year journey leading up to the revival of Buffy, which involved her being introduced to Chloé Zhao, the director of Eternals, by the producer of Buffy, Gail Berman.
She expressed surprise that Chloé recognized her, yet as usual, she shared this with Gail and mentioned they couldn’t conceive of the show being revived again. However, there was a distinct new tone in Gail’s voice on this occasion, she added.
Initially hesitant, I ultimately consented to join (primarily because I wanted to see Chloé), and what was supposed to be a brief twenty-minute coffee break unexpectedly transformed into a four-hour escapade. We shared laughter, tears, but mostly engaged in heartfelt conversation about the profound impact this series has had on us.
Gellar consented to carry on the discussions further, inviting writers Nora and Lilla Zuckerman into the dialogue. Eventually, after some time, a concept emerged that we found appealing.
She has consistently taken fan feedback into account regarding a potential return to the Buffy universe, but only if we were certain we could execute it effectively, she disclosed.
The journey so far has been lengthy, and it’s clear we still have some distance to go. Rest assured, we won’t move forward with the production unless we’re confident we can execute it flawlessly. Let me assure you, we are steadily making progress in the right direction.
To wrap up her post, she expressed gratitude: “I’m incredibly fortunate to embark on this adventure alongside these four exceptionally gifted ladies, each one a fellow Buffy enthusiast like myself and perhaps like you too. A big thank-you goes out to all the fans who persistently asked for it. This is dedicated to you.
This week, it was revealed by Variety that Buffy is coming back! The article mentioned that a spin-off series for Buffy might soon be commissioned by Hulu. Sarah Michelle Gellar is currently finalizing her role, and she’s expected to reprise her iconic character as a recurring figure rather than the main lead in this new series.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer can be streamed in full on Disney+.
