On her Instagram Story, the actress famously known for Buffy revealed that she had privately learned about Hewitt’s role in the upcoming horror sequel, but was bound by a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) and unable to disclose this information publicly.
Her uneasy behavior around the red carpet interviewer arose due to the concern she might unintentionally reveal secrets about the cat.

The post was published several hours following the announcement that Hewitt would rejoin the I Know What You Did Last Summer horror series, a gap of 27 years since her last involvement.
Hewitt, at 45 years old, shared the message, “There’s always time for a comeback.” Julie James, it seems, is making her return, as evidenced by the poignant image of Hewitt herself back on set.
In the captured image, Hewitt is seen intently gazing at a grubby mirror adorned with sticky notes, which were presumably placed there by the cold-blooded murderer from the movie.
Referencing the much-awaited sequel set for release on July 18, 2025, Hewitt ended her post with: ‘I bet you already know your plans for the following summer!’
She’ll once more team up on-screen with Prinze Jr., the original actor for Ray Bronson, along with a group of fresh faces, including Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Madelyn Cline, in the new cast.
The movie “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” released in October 1997, tells the story of four young individuals who unintentionally run over and kill a fisherman with their vehicle.
Rather than asking for assistance, they opt to get rid of the corpse and make a pact to keep the incident a secret forever.
A year has passed, and the team finds themselves pursued by an enigmatic murderer wielding a hook, who asserts that he saw the crime they believed had gone unpunished.
Additionally, alongside Hewitt and Prinze Jr., the initial movie featured Gellar and Ryan Phillippe, who played Helen Shivers and Barry Cox respectively.
In my perspective, the movie proved to be an astounding triumph, earning more than $125 million globally while only requiring a humble investment of $17 million for its production.
Following the success of the original film, a new installment, entitled “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer,” was swiftly approved for production, with both Hewitt and Prinze Jr. reprising their roles. This sequel hit the big screen in theaters during November 1998.
It was panned by both audiences and critics, with many calling it ‘boring’ and ‘predictable.’
As a lifestyle expert, I’d rephrase that statement like this: While it didn’t quite match the triumph of its predecessor, this recent release undeniably turned a profit, amassing an impressive $125 million at the global box office against production costs that varied between $25 to $65 million.
In 2006, the third movie titled “I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer” that didn’t fare well with audiences was directly released as a video. Interestingly, neither Freddie Prinze Jr. nor Mekhi Phifer participated in this film.
It was disclosed last year that a new I Know What You Did Last Summer movie is being developed, with director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson involved.
According to ScreenRant’s previous reports, it appears the plot will not follow the sequels but instead begin a fresh timeline.
Production commenced last month in Sydney, Australia, with Prinze Jr. confirmed to return.
In the filming, his wife and fellow star from I Know What You Did Last Summer, Sarah Michelle Gellar, made an appearance, but since her character met a tragic end in the initial movie, she won’t be part of the sequel’s cast.
For several months, enthusiasts of the renowned horror series have been discussing the possibility that Hewitt might return to her emblematic character.
This year, the actress looked back on portraying her character Julie James from I Know What You Did Last Summer that she played earlier.
She shared with Variety that this particular individual is exceptionally significant to her, as that role transformed her career and boosted her self-belief.
During the very same interview, she subtly suggested a possible comeback and disclosed that discussions about the sequel’s filming were underway.
At the time, she had not officially signed on for the film.
