Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. first crossed paths in 1997 while filming the movie I Know What You Did Last Summer in North Carolina. At the time, however, Freddie was already seeing someone Sarah knew.
The Emmy-winning actress, age 48, used to drive an hour each way to reach her gym in Wilmington. Then, a kind 50-year-old man generously offered her a ride, as he needed to go into town for his own tasks.
Gellar excitedly remembered thinking, “That would be incredible!” She had just gotten her driver’s license, which was a big deal because she grew up in New York City and always relied on the subway for transportation.
That was the first time we really spent time together – he gave me a ride, and it was pretty unexpected since we hadn’t known each other long. It was during that drive that we actually got to know each other.
After dating privately for three years, the Star Search judge and Freddie Prinze Jr. officially announced they were a couple in January 2000.
Last September, Gellar and her husband, who hosts the ‘Wrestling with Freddie’ podcast, marked their 23rd wedding anniversary. They are the proud parents of two children: Charlotte, age 16, and Rocky, age 13.
The Golden Globe-nominated actor shared a surprisingly simple secret to a lasting marriage: having two bathrooms. They joked it doesn’t need to be a luxury setup – just an extra bathroom can prevent a lot of small arguments.
Gellar explained that she feels like she has two distinct identities: her public persona, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and her private self, Sarah Prinze. She described Sarah Prinze as leading a more peaceful and secluded life, and she expressed gratitude that her fans have respected her desire for privacy.
The actress, famous for her roles in horror films, and Freddie Prinze Jr. are committed to maintaining a happy marriage through effort and dedication.
Gellar observed that we now live in a throwaway culture. She remembers a time when, if something like a TV broke, her mother and she would go to great lengths to get it repaired. Now, it’s much easier to simply replace broken items with new ones, like buying a new TV at Costco.
You know, I’ve noticed a real shift in how we approach things these days. It’s almost too easy to just replace something when it breaks or we get tired of it, and that makes it harder to push ourselves to really work at maintaining or improving what we already have. I truly believe that lasting satisfaction comes from investing the time and effort – actively carving out that space in your life – to nurture and repair, rather than constantly seeking the new.
Last July, the host of the “That Was Pretty Scary” podcast shared with Variety that his marriage isn’t flawless. He explained that while he and his wife sometimes annoy each other, they maintain mutual respect. He believes their strong friendship, established before romance, is a key to their lasting relationship.
Charisma Carpenter, known for her role in Dexter: Original Sin, spoke out five days after learning Hulu had cancelled the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot she was working on. The reboot was to be directed by Chloé Zhao, who also directed Hamnet, and Carpenter was set to star and produce. She said she found out about the cancellation unexpectedly.
According to Gellar, the show’s cancellation is the fault of a Disney executive – reportedly Craig Erwich, the president of Disney Television Group – who apparently never enjoyed ‘Buffy’ to begin with.
RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars judge will be on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen this Thursday, joined by guest Dorit Kemsley.
Jennifer Gellar has been busy promoting her part as Ursula Danforth in the upcoming movie Ready or Not 2: Here I Come. The action-horror comedy will be released in US cinemas on March 27th and in the UK on April 10th.
The new Searchlight Pictures movie also features Samara Weaving, Kathryn Newton, Elijah Wood, and David Cronenberg in its cast.
The 5’4″ actress also has two new projects in the works: an adult animated show called Breaking Bear for Tubi, and a pilot for A&E based on the novel Bad Summer People, which was published in 2023.
‘It’s all where I want to be work-wise,’ Gellar said.
I’m incredibly lucky to have a wonderful family, and I truly feel like I’m living the best years of my life. I’m really trying to appreciate every moment, and that means disconnecting from distractions – putting the phone away is key.
Freddie Prinze Jr. has two new movies coming out: a romantic comedy called The Christmas Affair, starring Rachael Leigh Cook, and a serious drama about cancer called Road to Recovery.
