Sarah Michelle Gellar is now open to the idea of a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot

As a die-hard fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer since its initial airing in the late ’90s, hearing about a potential reboot has sent my heart racing with excitement. I remember staying up late to catch each new episode, my eyes glued to the screen as Buffy and her Scooby gang battled demons and vampires. The show was more than just a supernatural thrill ride; it was a powerful commentary on friendship, love, loss, and growing up.

There’s a strong chance we might witness a revival of a cherished television show, one that fans have eagerly anticipated for a comeback – the popular supernatural horror series, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”. Remarkably, the lead actress has hinted at her willingness to revisit her role as the main character.

In a recent episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, Christian Slater and Sarah Michelle Gellar joined host Drew Barrymore to chat about their new project, Dexter: Original Sin. During the discussion, Barrymore inquired if Gellar would consider participating in a reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The question sparked instant applause from the audience, as they eagerly anticipated her answer.

As a gamer, I’ve been asked this question before, but this time feels different. You see, when asked about a Buffy reboot in the past, my answer was a firm no. But after chatting with Barrymore, things have shifted. I used to say no because Buffy is in its own special bubble and perfection, but watching shows like Sex and the City and Dexter made me realize there are creative ways to bring it back. So, while I still can’t guarantee anything, the thought of ‘Maybe’ has definitely crossed my mind now.

If there’s a remake of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” it doesn’t have to be a prequel like “Dexter: Original Sin.” Sarah Michelle Gellar told her co-star, “No, it could be anything. It’s a universe. And it makes you realize that in this world, we need those heroes, I think, more so than ever.” Here’s hoping for a successful revival of the series!

Initially airing on The WB for five seasons, then shifting to UPN for its final two seasons, the series known as “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” was developed by Joss Whedon. This popular show aired from 1997 to 2003. The story revolves around Buffy Summers, a young woman destined to safeguard humanity against evil entities like vampires, demons, and other supernatural beings. Sarah Michelle Gellar portrayed the leading character of Buffy. Alongside her were actors such as Nicholas Brendon, Alyson Hannigan, Charisma Carpenter, Anthony Stewart Head, David Boreanaz, Seth Green, James Marsters, and numerous others in the cast.
