Sarah Michelle Gellar Gives Update on Buffy the Vampire Slayer Revival
Sarah Michelle Gellar has admitted that progress on the Buffy the Vampire Slayer revival is moving forward ‘faster than anticipated’.
After long refusals, the 47-year-old actress will once again play Buffy Summers in the upcoming revival, a role she previously stated she didn’t want to see return on TV.
Speaking with People, the Cruel Intensions star admitted that the show could make its way to production sooner rather than later.
She mentioned that we have established our offices, and as a result, things seem to be moving along quicker than she had expected. However, she also added that it will still be a gradual process in her opinion.
The actress emphasized that many aspects of the project still needed to be finalized, so that longtime fans would find it satisfying when they watched it.
To proceed as required, everyone must exhibit patience towards each other. It won’t just happen on its own.

As news of the revival spread last month, the Emmy winner revealed that meeting with Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao made her open to the idea of reprising her role.
In her recent Instagram post, she mentioned that there may have been some news this past week, yet it appears you haven’t received any updates from her.
Three years back, my cherished friend and guide, Gail Berman, reached out to me. She requested a meeting with Chloé Zhao to discuss her perspective on a possible reboot of Buffy.
Though Sarah was astonished that Chloé recognized her, she remained uncertain and couldn’t envision a possible return of the show.
Eventually, the actress stated that she decided to meet with Zhao as she perceived a distinctly different tone in Berman’s voice.
She ultimately decided to join (primarily because she wanted to meet Chloé), and what was supposed to be a brief twenty-minute coffee break ended up turning into a four-hour long excursion instead. There were moments of laughter, tears, but mostly they spent time discussing the profound impact that the show has on them, as she shared with her followers later on.
At the meeting, Gellar made it clear that she hadn’t consented to any decisions then, but was taken aback when she decided to carry on the discussion further.
‘Eventually we added the incredible Nora and Lilla Zuckerman to our little tribe until ultimately, one day, we landed on an idea,’ she said.

In a message penned to her followers, the actress mentioned that she had taken note of their wish to revisit the character Buffy and her universe. However, she clarified that this wasn’t something she could pursue unless she was confident we would do it justice.
The Dexter: Original Sin star headed up the beloved supernatural drama, which aired for seven seasons spanning 1997-2003 on The WB/UPN and it spawned David Boreanaz’s spin-off Angel, which aired for five seasons spanning 1999-2004 on The WB.
It started when Joss Whedon came up with Buffy, a character he developed from the 1992 movie he wrote, which was directed by Fran Rubel Kuzui and featured Kirsty Swanson as the slayer.
The disgraced 60-year-old’s career in show business ended in 2021 after mounting allegations of ‘cruel’ and ‘toxic’ behavior on set from actors Ray Fisher, Jason Momoa, Gal Gadot, and Charisma Carpenter.
Recently, it was announced that Hulu is almost set to commission a new version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, with an actress in advanced talks to oversee its production.
