Sarah Michelle Gellar recently shared some thrilling updates regarding the forthcoming revival of the beloved series, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer“.
Back in the beginning of this year, there was an announcement made that the cherished show is coming back on air, and Sarah Michelle Gellar will once again take on the lead character she portrayed from 1997 to 2003.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Gellar revealed that it was Chloé Zhao’s compelling pitch for the role that initially drew her back to the iconic character. The television series is built upon this idea that Zhao presented.
For quite some time, she had declined the idea of reviving the series, as she didn’t feel it was appropriate to bring back something that had been previously aired.
As a fellow enthusiast, I shared the same passion for Buffy. Three years ago, Chloé, who happens to be a huge fan too, pitched an exciting project to me, and I eagerly joined in. The journey has been lengthy, but we’re still diligently working on it, bringing our shared vision to life.
Discussing the upcoming changes in “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew,” where Ryan Kiera Armstrong steps into the character of the new Slayer, Gellar hinted at a more lighthearted series.
She mentioned that this season is expected to be lighter compared to previous ones, as they strive for a harmonious blend of new and familiar characters.
She expressed her aspiration, saying, “I yearn to resurrect all those who have passed away, yet there must also be room for fresh narratives in this grand tapestry of life.
Regarding the upcoming series, Gellar hinted that they intend to weave in contemporary topics, delving into the experience of being a Slayer amidst a society immersed in social media.
In simpler terms, Sarah Michelle Gellar mentioned that one intriguing feature of Buffy is its history as a show that blends genres. She’s discussing ways to update the show’s themes, focusing on what it means to feel out of place in a world heavily influenced by social media. The team aims to investigate how boundaries in space and time impact today’s society.
