Sarah Michelle Gellar confirms role in “outrageous” new series with “incredible cast”
Sarah Michelle Gellar has been cast in a stacked series that’s a spoof of mob crime dramas.
In a fresh twist, Tubi’s animated series, titled “Breaking Bear,” is drawing comparisons to “The Sopranos” and Yogi Bear. The lead character, bear Blair, played by the original Buffy star, finds himself in a unique situation as the “brain” of a family of bears who have turned to a life of crime (as reported by Deadline).
Sarah Gellar appears alongside Annie Murphy from Schitt’s Creek in a role as the human news anchor Tawny, with Brendan Fraser portraying the eldest, temperamental bear brother Jer, and Frozen’s Josh Gad lending his voice to the youngest bear sibling Alistar.
Or, more informally:
Sarah Gellar stars opposite Annie Murphy (from Schitt’s Creek) as a human newscaster named Tawny, Brendan Fraser plays Jer, the oldest and hot-headed bear brother, while Josh Gad from Frozen voices the youngest bear sibling Alistar.

Elizabeth Hurley also features as the Bears’ big enemy aka Wolf Queen, sworn to protect the forest.
Julien Nitzberg’s creation, titled “Breaking Bear“, is characterized as an exhilarating tale that combines elements of fur-flying lawlessness, forest preservation, and a rogue family of bears. In this story, the bears resort to criminal activities to prevent frackers, gangsters, and a menacing wolf pack from devastating their habitat.
As they descend further into a world of crime, they encounter motorcycle gangs, a self-centered media personality, and their unique knack for undermining themselves, as suggested in the narrative summary.
The show is created by Nitzberg’s firm, alongside Evoke Entertainment and the media company owned by blink-182 band member Tom DeLonge, To The Stars Media.
Taking to her Instagram, Gellar branded the series “the most fun [she’s] ever had”.
Sarah Gellar isn’t only joining the cast of the Buffy reboot, but she will also take on a lead role in the upcoming holiday comedy-drama titled Bad Summer People.
As a gamer, I’m excited about the upcoming sequel of “I Know What You Did Last Summer”, but it seems like they’ve recast the role that was originally hers. I’ll still be tuning in to see how the story unfolds!
Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, who is both the sequel’s director and a good friend of Sarah Gellar, made an attempt to resurrect the character Helen Shivers, but was ultimately unsuccessful.
“I tried to pitch some crazy shit too,” Robinson told Entertainment Weekly.
As I pondered aloud, “Could it be that you’re not truly gone, merely in concealment?”, Sarah gently responded, “I assure you, I was as good as gone, frozen solid as anyone ever could be. Just look at my once-vibrant self, now a frozen statue.
“I was like, ‘Yeah, but what if?’ And she said, ‘I am dead. I am Sarah Dead Gellar’.”
Breaking Bear will stream on Tubi.
