Sarah Michelle Gellar turned heads at the London premiere of “Ready Or Not 2: Here I Come” held at Cineworld Leicester Square on Thursday.
The actress, now 48, looks remarkably youthful, almost as if she hasn’t aged since her time on Buffy The Vampire Slayer in the late 1990s.
At the premiere of the Ready Or Not sequel, Sarah wore a simple black dress with a white collar.
The dress had a high slit, and the actress, known for her role in Cruel Intentions, completed the look with black heels.
Sarah arrived at the cinema looking cheerful and readily signed autographs for her fans as she went in.
Sarah’s co-star, Kathryn Newton, also attended the premiere and stood out in a vibrant red turtleneck and mini skirt.
The Big Little Lies actress also sported matching sheer tights along with a pair of red heels.
The premiere is happening shortly after Sarah shared her disappointment about Hulu cancelling the upcoming reboot of Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
TMZ reports that Sarah and the show’s director, Chloe Zhao, were surprised and upset by the news, and they weren’t expecting it when it happened.
The actress famous for her role as Buffy Summers didn’t hold back when she explained why the planned reboot was canceled. She said a Disney executive repeatedly made it clear he disliked the original series, ultimately leading to its demise.
Viewers of the show, which originally aired from 1997 to 2003, quickly began guessing which Disney executive was being referred to.
Craig Erwich, who leads Disney Television Group, was among the executives people were talking about.
As a huge Buffy fan, I was heartbroken to hear the reboot was cancelled, and now it’s confirmed – multiple sources told the Daily Mail that it was Erwich who made the call. Apparently, it was a top-level decision, and everyone involved – the cast and crew – was completely devastated and shocked. It’s just awful news.
Despite the show’s cancellation, there’s still a chance Buffy could return. A source suggests Sarah Michelle Gellar is interested in continuing the series on a different platform, potentially giving fans the reboot they’ve been requesting for over two decades.
‘It was him; the buck stopped with Craig,’ an insider told the Daily Mail.
According to a source, he disliked the project and didn’t believe it would succeed. He clearly felt burdened by having to work on it, and ultimately cancelled it because he wasn’t happy with its progress. While many colleagues believe this was a significant error in judgment, it was his call to make.
Deadline reported in February 2025 that Sarah Michelle Gellar will return as Buffy Summers in a new pilot for Hulu. The pilot will be directed by Zhao, the director of ‘Hamnet,’ who is a longtime fan of the original series.
Next, 16-year-old actress Ryan Kiera Armstrong was chosen to star in the reboot as the new vampire slayer in Sunnydale. Interestingly, she was cast at age 16, just three years younger than Sarah Michelle Gellar was when she originally played Buffy in 1997.
Nora and Lilla Zuckerman, a pair of sisters who write screenplays together, penned the first episode of the series. Gail Berman, along with married producers Fran and Kaz Kuzui, were originally involved as executive producers.
During filming, Sarah regularly shared photos from the set with her five million Instagram followers, including one from the pilot episode’s table read last July. She also posted a picture with Zhao, where they were both playfully holding wooden daggers.
On Saturday, Sarah shared disappointing news with fans in a sad video: the reboot had been cancelled.
People magazine reported that Sarah found out whether her show would continue on March 13th, while she was at the premiere of her new movie, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come. The film was also produced by Searchlight.
In a shocking revelation to the magazine, she explained that she received the news while walking onto the stage for the premiere of their film. This happened during a particularly busy time, as her daughter, Chloe, was also nominated for a Best Director Oscar for her movie, Hamnet.
The fact that they called us on Friday—the day Chloe should have been celebrating a fantastic film, and the day my own project, which I poured my heart into, was finally premiering—really speaks volumes.
During the interview, Gellar explained that a Disney executive was responsible for canceling the project. She said this executive openly disliked the original show, even boasting that he’d never watched it and didn’t think it was his type of program.
Disney promoted the president of its television group on Monday to also oversee 20th Television and 20th Television Animation, in addition to their existing role leading ABC Entertainment and Hulu Originals.
I wasn’t shocked to hear about the show getting cancelled, and someone close to the situation told me it was totally Erwich’s style. Apparently, he’s a really decisive guy, and he’ll make a call, even if it means disagreeing with what Hulu wants – like, for example, not going through with the reboot. He just does what he thinks is right.
From what I understand, there was a lot of confidence that this project would really take off – it had huge potential. And while things haven’t gone exactly as planned, my sources tell me the decision-maker is fully aware of how it’s been received and is prepared to face any criticism. Ultimately, it was a call he made, trusting his instincts as an executive.
According to a report from People, Disney still owns the rights to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which prevents any other company from developing new projects based on the show.
The Daily Mail contacted representatives for Sarah, Disney and Hulu for comment.
