Sarah Lancashire’s “brilliant” Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is now streaming for free

You can now watch Everybody’s Talking About Jamie – the film based on the hit musical – for free on streaming services in the UK. It tells the story of a teenager from Sheffield who dreams of becoming a drag queen.

This movie follows a sixteen-year-old student facing prejudice from teachers, bullies, and even his father, all of whom try to suppress his spirit.

The film premiered on Channel 4 last night and is now streaming on their platform. Like other films available there, it will only be available for 29 days before it’s taken down.

The film boasts a talented cast, including Sarah Lancashire, Sharon Horgan, Richard E. Grant, Ralph Ineson, Samuel Bottomley, Shobna Gulati, Lauren Patel, and Max Harwood, who received the Rising Star – Film award at the 2021 Digital Spy Reader Awards for his performance in this movie.

The script for this episode was written by Tom MacRae, a writer for Doctor Who, and the music was created with the help of Dan Gillespie Sells from the band The Feeling.

Given the impressive cast and crew, it’s not surprising the movie received positive reviews. It currently has an 81% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 107 reviews.

RogerEbert.com praised the film as a heartwarming musical with excellent performances. Time Out noted that Jamie could be one of the most charming and feel-good LGBTQ+ films from England since Beautiful Thing.

The Guardian praised the film as warm and uplifting, highlighting Hugh Grant’s standout performance. However, they also noted it followed a familiar formula often seen in British independent films about determined underdogs.

It’s got a lower user rating from IMDb readers, sitting at an average score of only 6.6 out of 10.
