Saoirse Ronan explains career change in new movie The Outrun
As a seasoned gamer of life and cinema, I’ve seen my fair share of productions, but Saoirse Ronan‘s debut as a producer in ‘The Outrun’ is a breath of fresh Orkney air. Based on Amy Liptrot’s autobiographical book, this film is not just a cinematic journey, but a testament to the human spirit’s resilience.
Actress Saoirse Ronan is making her first foray into film production with the release of “The Outrun“, hitting UK theaters this week.
According to Amy Liptrot’s autobiographical book, the movie narrates the story of a 29-year-old woman named Rona, who goes back to the Orkney Islands to recuperate from her alcohol addiction. As she moves forward day by day, Rona encounters hope and resilience amidst her haunting memories of the toughest times in her life.
First, Ronan discovered Liptrot’s book thanks to her spouse and co-actor, Jack Lowden. Once captivated by the content, she seized the moment and made a decision to launch her debut project as a producer.
In a special interview with Digital Spy, she expressed that the experience was fantastic and seemed to believe it was just what she had been looking for.
Ronan noted that it was an incredibly effective method for him to break free from his own thoughts and consider the broader context, as well as channel his energy productively towards the individuals he was collaborating with.
In order to assist them better when their suggestions about hair and makeup are overlooked, or if a cast member requires additional resources, whether on set or off, I am prepared to lend a hand. Being accustomed to being in similar roles myself, I possess a deep sense of empathy and understanding for anyone else in the same position.
It seems to me that a greater number of creative individuals ought to produce their own work, as there’s often a competitive edge in the industry that can sometimes be harsh. With this perspective, you understand better how things should ideally unfold, and I believe it’s best to ensure this by doing so ourselves. It was truly gratifying to have an opportunity to express this creativity.
Ronan too shared insights into dealing with a substantial theme like alcoholism, a key element of the plot.
She clarified that for her, it seemed like a chance to depict that particular experience in a respectful manner, regardless of whether you’re personally experiencing it or supporting someone who is.
It seems like we’re dealing with a health issue, be it substance abuse such as alcoholism, other types of addiction, or mental health struggles. This issue touches everyone, in one way or another.
“I believe it’s worthwhile to revisit a film as a means to present an alternate viewpoint, foster dialogue, and provide insight into various experiences. Moreover, films have the power to reveal joy and healing, making them a valuable use of our time.
In the cast of this movie, we have Paapa Essiedu from “I May Destroy You,” Stephen Dillane known for his role in “Game of Thrones,” and Saskia Reeves who appears in “Slow Horses.” The film is under the direction of Nora Fingscheidt and jointly produced by Jack Lowden, Sarah Brocklehurst, and Dominic Norris.
The Outrun” garnered generally favorable feedback from critics, with many commending Ronan’s dedicated portrayal in the lead role. Currently boasting a score of 78% on Rotten Tomatoes (based on 41 reviews), the movie is set to premiere in the UK this coming Friday and make its US debut on October 4th.
Actress Saoirse Ronan is featured in one of this year’s highly awaited British films, titled “Blitz”, directed by Steve McQueen. This movie is scheduled to be released in November, after its debut at the London Film Festival.
The Outrun is arriving in UK cinemas on September 27.
