San Diego Comic Con: Peacock's "Those About to Die" and "Teacup" are stars on Thursday

As a hardcore gamer and avid fan of pop culture, I was absolutely thrilled to witness the excitement and innovation that unfolded at this year’s San Diego Comic Con. The way in which teams of creators and cast members came together to shed new light on established or upcoming projects was truly inspiring.

At San Diego Comic Con, more than just new TV shows and movies are unveiled. The event brings together creative teams and actors to provide fresh insights into ongoing or forthcoming productions.

Two shows, “Those About to Die” and “Teacup,” were highlighted on Peacock’s Thursday lineup for a joint discussion during their streaming service. (Or) Peacock showcased conversations between the creators of “Those About to Die” and “Teacup,” Ian McCulloch and James Wan, on two of their Thursday shows.

As a long-time fan of historical dramas and epic films, I am absolutely thrilled about the upcoming series “Those About to Die,” starring the legendary Sir Anthony Hopkins as a Roman emperor. The prospect of watching Roland Emmerich’s first foray into television is an exciting one, given his impressive track record in bringing large-scale productions to life on the big screen.

In this footage taken backstage, you can witness the remarkable commitment of the team to both physical and computer-generated effects, as well as the fervor of the international cast and crew. The session was led by the innovative producer, alongside actors Iwan Rheon, Sara Martins, Moe Hashim, Jojo Macari, Dimitri Leonidas, and Gabriella Pession. Perri Nemiroff skillfully guided the conversation during the panel, delving into topics such as stunts and visual effects.

Furthermore, Katy Stephan from Variety described the day as featuring a “thrilling and authentic chariot race event.”

Outside the panel, “Those About to Die” took to the San Diego streets for a real-life chariot race spectacle. The special activation allowed fans to step inside the betting tavern, join one of the coveted factions and experience the adrenaline thrill of the race. Upon entry, guests were divided into the 5 factions from the show and given the chance to whip a pair of reins to power their team’s chariot to victory in a Gaslamp District “Circus Maxiumus.”

During the performance of this Roman epic, the active engagement of the audience and their response created an exhilarating atmosphere.

“A no-holds-barred gargantuan spectacle”

In October, Peacock will introduce a chilling horror project, described as a thriller. Notably, this production has Executive Producers: James Wan, Ian McCulloch, E.L. Katz, and Robert McCammon, who authored the source material named “Stinger.” According to McCulloch, “Stinger” shares similarities with renowned works like “The Stand,” “Independence Day,” and “Mars Attacks.” Wan adds that this production is not confined to a single genre. It artfully combines elements of horror, mystery, and drama, presenting an engaging enigma.

As a seasoned film critic with over two decades of experience under my belt, I’ve seen my fair share of productions, both good and bad. And let me tell you, when it comes to the creative team behind this upcoming project, they’ve got the chops to deliver something truly special.

Two episodes will come out on October 10, followed by two new episodes every week during the supposedly eerie period.
