Samuel L Jackson’s new Scotland-based thriller is now on Prime Video

As a longtime fan who’s seen my fair share of crime thrillers, I must say that Samuel L Jackson’s latest offering, “Damaged,” is a rollercoaster ride worth taking! The setting in Scotland and an ensemble cast featuring familiar faces like Vincent Cassel, Gianni Capaldi, Kate Dickie, and John Hannah make it a unique blend of the familiar and the exotic.

Back in early 2021, I got hooked on a thriller film that took me on an adventure across the pond. As a gamer, I found myself immersed in the storyline of this detective flick, where I stepped into the shoes of Dan Lawson (Jackson), a seasoned Chicago cop. He was summoned to Scotland to crack a chilling string of homicides.

The streaming service has now released the movie for subscribers to watch for free.

In addition to Jackson, the film boasts Vincent Cassel from Westworld, Gianni Capaldi known for Still Game, Kate Dickie famed in Game of Thrones, and John Hannah, a cast member of Agents of SHIELD.

The film has received generally unfavorable critiques, as indicated by its current 29% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Guardian described it as an “honest, so-bad-it’s-good crime thriller.” They further stated: “If you’ve ever pondered what a British police drama would be like if this specific group of actors were cast – and honestly, who hasn’t? – then this film is for you.”

In a well-executed manner, Damaged manages to avoid being boring or excessively negative, although some viewers might occasionally express slight frustration, according to Variety.

Soon, you’ll find Jackson appearing in the Netflix drama titled “The Piano Lesson,” an adaptation from the play penned by August Wilson.

Additionally featuring John David Washington from Tenet, the movie chronicles the life of the Charles family amidst the Great Depression, focusing on a piano inherited by them, which bears engravings made by their ancestors who were enslaved.

In addition to the cast of Justice League, actors such as Danielle Deadwyler (from Till), Michael Potts (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom), and Corey Hawkins (The Tragedy of Macbeth) are also part of this project.

The powerful first trailer was released last month, with the movie due for release in cinemas and on streaming in November.

Damaged is available to watch now on Prime Video.
