Samuel L Jackson’s “incoherent” British flop is now streaming for free

Samuel L Jackson’s British flop The 51st State is now available to stream for free.

2001’s film features Jackson portraying Elmo McElroy, an accomplished U.S. chemist, who embarks on a journey to England, aiming to seal one last major transaction – launching a novel designer drug onto the European marketplace.

Accompanied by the antagonistic local gangster Felix De Souza, portrayed by Robert Carlyle, who harbors intense dislike for Americans, Elmo finds himself ensnared in a tangled net of deceit and betrayal within Liverpool’s criminal underbelly and rave culture.

In the United States, the film known as “Formula 51” is currently available for free streaming with advertisements on Amazon’s Prime Video. Additionally, you can choose to rent or purchase it directly from the platform.

Under the direction of Ronnie Yu, the movie titled “The 51st State” features Emily Mortimer, Rhys Ifans, Meat Loaf, Sean Pertwee, and Ricky Tomlinson in significant roles. Jackson plays a key part both as an actor and an executive producer for this production.

The film was met with negative reviews both by critics and audiences upon its debut, as indicated by its current 26% rating based on 101 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

The review consensus on the aggregator site states that “Formula 51” is a chaotic, stylistic jumble of profanity that lacks coherence and doesn’t amount to much.

In the meantime, Jackson’s latest film, titled “The Piano Lesson“, made an impressive start by receiving a flawless 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 13 critiques. This score has since dropped to a highly commendable 88% following 120 reviews.

Based on August Wilson’s 1987 stage play, the Netflix film centers around a Black family during the Great Depression grappling with a decision about an ancestral piano. They are torn between selling the musical artifact to acquire property or preserving it because of its deep emotional value.

The 51st State is available to stream now on Prime Video.
