Samuel L Jackson reveals morbid thought about first MCU contract

As a seasoned gamer who’s witnessed the rise and reign of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), I can’t help but feel a sense of awe when reflecting on Samuel L. Jackson’s journey with Nick Fury. The man signed up for a nine-picture deal, and little did he know that two and a half years would see him speeding through more movies than a superhero in a time machine!

Samuel L Jackson has revealed a morbid thought about his first MCU contract.

In an interview with GQ, the actor portraying Nick Fury in the Marvel series revealed that he hadn’t anticipated living long enough to complete his nine-film agreement with Marvel Studios. However, he expressed delight when he observed how swiftly the movies were produced instead.

In simpler terms, Jackson shared that he understood he had signed up for a nine-film contract when Feige expressed, “We want to propose a nine-picture deal to you.” His response was something like, “How many years do I have to keep acting in order to make these nine movies?

I was surprised to learn that nine movies were produced within just two and a half years because this process isn’t typically swift and people don’t usually do it. Frankly, it seems quite unusual. Initially, I thought I might exhaust my contracts due to the rapid production pace, but fortunately, everything worked out fine.

Additionally, Jackson shared the scene with Nick Fury that he enjoyed most, and this took place during an intense car chase scene from the movie “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” in 2014.

In the movie “Winter Soldier”, when Nick Fury is in that car, it’s just like him to his core. It’s as if he’s saying, “Stay calm, let’s think, time for the next step, next step, next step. He’s got this, he’s cool under pressure.” In other words, he’s demonstrating some seriously impressive and collected behavior.

Drawing inspiration from a renowned comic book figure, the character Nick Fury previously held the position as head of SHIELD and is celebrated for initiating the Avengers. The role of Fury was first portrayed by Jackson in the 2010 film Iron Man 2.

Additionally, he can be seen in “Captain America: The First Avenger”, “The Avengers”, “Avengers: Age of Ultron”, “Captain Marvel”, “Avengers: Endgame”, “Spider-Man: Far From Home” and “The Marvels”.

In the previous year, the actor starred in the Marvel spin-off show titled “Secret Invasion“, where the plot revolved around Fury’s investigation into a secret plan orchestrated by a faction of shape-shifting aliens called Skrulls, aiming to conquer Earth.

The illustrious ensemble of actors in this production featured Ben Mendelsohn, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Killian Scott, Samuel Adewunmi, Dermot Mulroney, Richard Dormer, Emilia Clarke, and Olivia Colman as well.

Since then, Jackson has secured roles in the Scotland-set thriller “Damaged”, currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video, as well as the upcoming drama “The Piano Lesson”. This production will see a limited run in cinemas in November, followed by its availability on Netflix.

All four Avengers movies are streaming on Disney+.
