Sam Thompson issues update on his  painful calf injury as he’s forced to modify the second leg of ’emotional’ 260-mile endurance challenge

Sam Thompson recently shared some new information regarding the leg injury he sustained while embarking on his challenging trek from London to Manchester, which involves both cycling and walking.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I embarked on an extraordinary journey this past Monday, mirroring the footsteps of a renowned figure from “I’m A Celeb,” at the tender age of 32. My goal was not simply to traverse the distance between Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford, but rather to make a tangible difference in the world by delivering the Soccer Aid match ball to its final destination. This mission, you see, wasn’t just about sports; it was about raising funds for Unicef, an organization close to my heart that works tirelessly for the betterment of children everywhere.

To meet the challenge, Sam needs to run a marathon over the course of five days while also cycling between them, with the goal of delivering the ball by June 6 for the upcoming high-profile match on June 15.

However, during the initial stage, the celebrity from reality TV experienced a calf injury that cast uncertainty over his ability to finish the task.

Currently, due to medical concerns, the star must adjust the second part of his competition by cycling instead of walking. Doctors are unsure if he’ll be capable of running later today.

By the close of day one, Sam was captured on camera grimacing as he underwent treatment lying on a medical bed. Later, it was disclosed that he found it extremely difficult to walk.

With the help of his skilled physical therapist, Sam is pushing forward despite the obstacle – as medical experts suggest he bike from Stadium MK to Villa Park for his treatment.

Ahead of the start of the second leg, the 32-year-old reality said: ‘Yesterday was really hard.

Today, the healthcare professionals taking care of me have suggested I begin cycling as part of my recovery process. This will help engage various leg muscles, and I’m optimistic that I’ll be able to walk again before too long.

My aim is to travel from Milton Keynes to Villa Park, and I’ll make it happen; I simply have to keep moving forward on my bike.

My original plan has shifted, but my motivation behind it remains the same. I find myself in a situation where your support is crucial at this moment. Whether it’s through financial donations or words of encouragement, anything you can offer would mean a great deal to me. Today promises to be an emotionally charged day.

The medical team intends to evaluate if Sam is able to forgo cycling and instead run intermittently during a 72-mile route that passes through Towcester, Rugby, Coventry, and Solihull.

On her Instagram Stories on Monday, Sam’s sister Louise shared that she came close to having a mental breakdown upon witnessing her brother’s injury.

In a video, she expressed her disbelief that she was wearing a dressing gown, but she acknowledged that extraordinary situations might require unconventional solutions.

I’ve been keeping a close eye on various platforms – the Soccer Aid channel, Instagram posts, Instagram Stories, and even Hits Radio this morning – as they covered my brother completing his run from here to Manchester.

I feel as though I’m about to experience a mental collapse whenever I encounter anything related. Watching him limp severely after the first marathon was tough, and now he must complete an extended bike ride. I can’t help but fear his legs might succumb under the strain.

In a conversation with TopMob this morning, Sam shared his thoughts on the major hurdle he expects to encounter during his demanding journey.

He said: ‘The hard part of this challenge is gonna be the fear of not completing it.

What consistently presents as the toughest challenge in my mind is the fear of getting hurt and being unable to continue playing.

‘I just, I have to be able to get of course I finish line.

I find it really scary because, given the number of people present, disappointing them is one of my greatest vulnerabilities.

In my recent update, I’ve shared some developments regarding my connection with the renowned Love Island contestant, Samie Eilishi, who’s 25 years of age. Following our public display of affection in London not long ago, it seems we’re moving forward on a new path together.

In an interesting turn of events, I found myself conspicuously missing from the starting line, while my sister Louise and her partner, Ryan Libbey, stood there, lending their encouragement.

Right before embarking on the challenge, Sam disclosed that his good friends, like best friend Jamie Laing, haven’t shared their plans yet regarding joining him during the journey.

Yet, it remained unclear if Samie, his girlfriend since April, would show up, as he didn’t verify this information.

In conversation only with TopMob, Sam mentioned his expectation that there might be a handful of individuals involved.

When directly questioned about Samie’s presence, he expressed: “It’s not just about who I’m dating or hooking up with, it goes far beyond that.

‘And I feel like it would take away from what it is going on. You know what I mean?

‘You know, If I had a wife or something like, like a girlfriend of years it might be a different.

I feel it’s best not to engage in any actions that might detract from this challenge and UNICEF, as they deserve all the attention.

I see myself as essentially a tool, functioning to generate income. So, I prefer to maintain this perspective.
