Sam Raimi-produced Don’t Move among 10 new scary movies releasing the week of Oct. 21
As a die-hard horror enthusiast who has spent countless nights huddled under blankets watching every spooky flick that comes my way, I must say this upcoming October 25th is shaping up to be a veritable feast for fans like myself!
Are you still struggling to comprehend the shocking turn of events in last week’s episode of Grotesquerie? Don’t fret! FX will air two episodes consecutively this week, keeping the horror alive even as we approach the end of October. In addition to Grotesquerie, prepare for new installments of Teacup and From season 3, along with the debut of What We Do in the Shadows season 6.
This week, you can enjoy Melissa Barrera’s enchanting romantic comedy “Your Monster” and the newest Netflix thriller from producer Sam Raimi, titled “Don’t Move“. Dive in to discover more spine-tingling horror films releasing this week!
Carved (Oct. 21, Hulu)
There’s kind of a killer pumpkin on the loose. Think twice before picking up that giant butcher knife and carving a jack-o-lantern this year. Hulu’s latest original horror film is based on the previous “Huluween” short of the same name. Director Justin Harding returns with a full-length version of his campy monster movie featuring a sentient pumpkin terrorizing teens trapped overnight in a historical reenactment village.
What We Do in the Shadows (Oct. 21, FX)
Tonight, the long-awaited sixth and concluding season of our riotously funny horror-comedy show begins on FX. It will premiere with a trilogy of episodes, followed by one episode each week until we reach the series finale. If you can’t catch it live, don’t worry – episodes will be available on Hulu the next day. Prepare for the return of beloved characters, some fresh faces, and plenty more otherworldly mischief!
Ghost Game (Oct. 22, VOD)
As a thrill-seeker, I recently stumbled upon an exhilarating new internet trend in the chilling horror movie from Dread. Dubbed “phrogging,” it’s all about sneaking unnoticed into someone else’s home. However, little did the adventurous couple know that their phrogging escapade would lead them to a house harboring sinister forces and a family teetering on the edge of madness due to these evil entities.
Family Pack (Oct. 23, Netflix)
This quirky French comedy film is one of the few titles this week you can enjoy with your family. Rated TV-14, Family Pack is based on the popular game The Werewolves of Miller’s Hollow, where players are assigned secret roles and must discern who among them is a werewolf. In the film, a family is transported back in time to the real medieval village in the 1940s, where they must find the werewolves and kill them before becoming victims themselves.
Your Monster (Oct. 25, Theaters)
Experience the enchanting blend of horror and romance in “Your Monster,” an ideal Halloween movie for enthusiasts of both “Lisa Frankenstein” and “The Shape of Water.” The captivating Melissa Barrera stars as Laura, a struggling actress who’s recently been left by her boyfriend. Forced to retreat to her childhood home, she finds herself competing with her ex as he stages a musical they had co-created. However, things take an unexpected turn when Laura stumbles upon a monster hiding in her closet. To her astonishment, this creature turns out to be exactly what she needs.
Don’t Move (Oct. 25, Netflix)
In this suspenseful movie produced by Sam Raimi, Kelsey Abille and Finn Wittrock take on leading roles. The plot revolves around a woman who is being pursued by a ruthless murderer, but there’s an intriguing twist: the antagonist injects her with a substance that gradually paralyzes her body over a 20-minute span. This leaves her with a narrow window of just 20 minutes to elude her captor as her muscles progressively lose function, starting from one limb and moving on to another.
Before (Oct. 25, Apple TV+)
Is there any additional motivation needed for you to watch the fresh series featuring Judith Light and Billy Crystal? Although it’s not strictly horror, “Before” delves into the realm of psychological thrillers, centering around a child psychiatrist who grapples with the aftermath of his wife’s passing. His life becomes even more complex when he develops an eerie bond with a disturbed adolescent patient. Tune in this Friday as Apple premieres the first two episodes, with new installments following every week thereafter.
Trap (Oct. 25, Max)
2021 has been spectacular for horror films centered around fictional pop stars. In “Trap,” the newest offering from M. Night Shyamalan, Lady Raven shines. Make your Halloween double feature unforgettable by catching “Smile 2” in cinemas and then streaming “Trap” once you’re home! The much-anticipated psychological thriller akin to “Silence of the Lambs” at a Taylor Swift concert will finally hit streaming platforms this weekend! When does Skye Riley and Lady Raven embark on their world tour?
Azrael (Oct. 25, Shudder)
Following the news that Ready or Not 2 is being made, it feels fitting to discuss Samara Weaving’s recent movie, a religious thriller titled Azrael. This film takes place in a world after the Rapture, where people no longer speak. In this movie, Samara portrays a woman pursued by fanatics who wish to use her as a sacrifice to appease an ancient evil. Originally released in theaters by IFC Films in September, Azrael will be available for video-on-demand and streaming on Shudder starting this Friday.
