Sam Quek talks about connection to the icon they are dancing to for Strictly Come Dancing’s Icon Week
As a fan who’s seen my fair share of challenges and triumphs, both on the field and off, I can’t help but resonate with Sam Quek’s words about Taylor Swift. Her journey from humble beginnings to global stardom, marked by setbacks yet undeterred determination, mirrors my own experiences in many ways. While I may not be sharing her stratosphere of fame and success, I can relate to the resilience it takes to keep going when faced with criticism and adversity.
This week on Strictly Come Dancing, known as Icons Week, a range of musicians are being celebrated, from The Beatles and Queen to contemporary artists like Taylor Swift. Interestingly enough, Sam Quek and her dance partner Nikita Kuzmin have chosen to perform an American Smooth dance to Taylor’s revised version of ‘Love Story’.
Prior to their scheduled performance during Icons Week, Sam and Nikita have shared some insights. They’re excited about the chance to perform for Taylor Swift this week. However, they revealed that in reality, their true inspirations are none other than their grandparents.
According to Nikita Kuzmin, speaking about Taylor Swift, she is an incredibly powerful and impressive woman. It’s evident that dancing to her music is seen as quite an honor by this skilled dancer.
But what did Sam Quek have to say about dancing to Swift’s music this week?
Sam Quek talks about relating to Taylor Swift ahead of her Strictly Come Dancing performance for Icons Week
Although Sam and Nikita view their grandparents as role models, they still admire Taylor Swift as a role model too. Consequently, it’s understandable that Sam would express her opinions about the singer as she prepares for her upcoming Strictly Come Dancing performance.
Taylor Swift. She’s been through so much and has been publicly humiliated. She started from the bottom, in terms of a little stage in a park with 20 people watching and she had setbacks but she kept going.
We’re similar ages so I can relate to Taylor Swift, even though she’s in another stratosphere of fame and success. I’ve been through that in terms of setbacks and knockbacks and people saying you can’t do that, you’re not good enough, and then actually just being like, I can do it.
It’s plausible that Sam Quek could resonate with Taylor Swift, given their shared experience as public figures who have faced challenges. As a former field hockey player and Olympian, Sam has likely encountered losses in her athletic career, which can impact future achievements. Therefore, it’s not surprising that she finds Taylor Swift’s music relatable.
Absolutely, all that’s left is for us to turn on “Strictly Come Dancing” and watch as Sam and Nikita perform their American Smooth dance.
