Sam Pang to Host His Own Late Night Talk Show: Australia’s Answer to Graham Norton?

Sam Pang’s notable performance as the initial solo host of the Logies in over a decade marks his transition into an unexpected new role, making him a comedian stepping into uncharted territory.

51-year-old Host of Have You Been Paying Attention and Front Bar has been granted a late-night chat show all to himself.

Channel Ten is preparing to debut a fresh “nightly talk show” on Mondays, with Sam as the host.

It is known that at least three networks have proposed a comedy series following his success in revitalizing Australia’s Oscars with his humorous, sharp-witted remarks for two consecutive years, according to Daily Mail.

A reliable insider shares with Daily Mail Australia that Sam is being asked to incorporate his unique brand of Pang humor into a fresh, weekly show format, which is now being prepared and filmed in Melbourne.

Following two years of successfully hosting The Logies and making the house buzz, it was said that Sam had become highly sought-after. A number of networks were proposing ideas based on classic talk show formats.

Ten won the bid, which is not surprising given his many years with the network.

The source added, ‘Sam boasts an extensive background with Network Ten, granting him substantial creative freedom.’

The idea, as shared, is that Sam should create a unique version of a talk show reminiscent of Graham Norton‘s starry format.

Or:

The vision, it’s been conveyed, is for Sam to come up with a distinctive take on a chat show in the style of Graham Norton and his starlit setup.

Our source confirms that Australia will officially launch its long-awaited late-night talk show. This is a gap we’ve felt for some time, as it’s been lacking in our free television offerings. Unlike The Cheap Seats, Sam’s upcoming show promises to be unique.

‘It’s more Graham Norton for Australia than weekly news commentary.’

I’m hoping he adopts a bit of the classic charm that once made late-night TV legendary.

Typically, Australian television presenters sign exclusive contracts with a single network.

Despite the general trend, Sam stands out as an exception by juggling roles on the popular comedy quiz show “Have You Been Paying Attention?” and the AFL-focused talk show “The Front Bar” on Channel Seven.

Sam’s knack for smoothly navigating different professional circles is a distinctive aspect of their comical journey.

He playfully hinted at his past success when commencing the 2023 Logie Awards, hosted by Channel Seven: “I’d like to recognize a victory for inclusivity tonight. I am a unique first in the Logies history, being both half Channel 7 and half Channel 10.

Let’s face the truth, it’s refreshing to see a representative from Asia on Channel 7 without any involvement in illegal activities such as attempting to transport live birds across borders undetected.

Channel Ten is relying on Sam to utilize his extensive network of contacts from various industries to secure well-known guests, both foreign and local, for his program.

A source from Ten confided in Daily Mail that there hasn’t been an engaging late-night talk show on Australian television which can accommodate international visitors when they travel to Australia.

The network is confident ‘Sam will easily facilitate that.’

Tonight, Sam’s still unnamed show is planning to add a group of funny co-stars to enhance its entertainment roster.

At present, the recruitment process is ongoing, and a source close to the network has hinted that it’ll be intriguing to witness who from the industry will team up with him. It’s well-known that Sam has strong connections, and I wouldn’t be surprised if many in his field would eagerly accept an invitation to work alongside him often.

It’s being whispered that comedian Ed Kavalee and television host Chrissie Swan might be considering entering the race.

A representative from The Front Bar stated that they eagerly anticipate having Sam with them in the upcoming year, addressing speculation among fans about whether this new job might lead to him leaving one of his current positions.

‘But we have let him know that it would be great if he could take his Drip Tray segment with him.’

It’s uncertain if Seven will retain Sam as the host of the Logies in 2025, considering that he now holds a prime-time hosting role at a competing network.

Over the last two years, Sam’s management of the awards ceremony has garnered much acclaim. Television viewership for the event has notably increased during his tenure.
