During the 2025 Logie Awards on Sunday evening, Sam Pang spoke candidly and critically about Married At First Sight in a blunt and harsh critique, which kicked off the event.
The Logies host wasted no time skewering the controversial reality show.
Surely, one of my favorites is ‘Married at First Sight’ in its 12th season, said Pang. This year, the headline-grabbing incident was when Paul became enraged after discovering his on-screen spouse had an affair with a rapper, leading to him destroying a wall – a tale as ancient as history itself.
In his signature dry tone, Pang casually mentioned, ‘I think many of the competitors would find a gap in a wall quite relatable.’
The crowd burst into laughter as Pang continued his act, poking fun at the frequently criticized method of choosing actors for the show.
In my professional opinion as a lifestyle expert, this recent season of MAFS faced criticism for allegedly violating ethical standards. However, the producers have vigorously defended their actions, stating that each contestant was required to undergo thorough evaluations, including mental health assessments, STI tests, and IQ tests. If any contestant failed all these screenings, they were not allowed on the show.

In a playful and mocking manner, Pang brought up one of Australia’s notorious recent news stories as a joke, saying: “We all know that Married at First Sight is well-known for its wild dinner parties – don’t ever skip Sunday nights. As for next season, I have an idea – perhaps they should hire the mushroom lady as the caterer.
During the roast, John Aiken, an expert in relationships from MAFS, appeared somewhat unimpressed, as indicated by a brief lapse in his usual smile, even though the audience reacted enthusiastically to the sharp comments.
This week, Aiken indicated he was preparing for potential criticism from Pang, as he shared with Daily Mail.
As a die-hard admirer, let me tell you, there’s no denying my affection for this. Just as I mentioned earlier, it seems to captivate hearts, yet it also stirs up controversy, right? That was what I found myself expressing before the awards ceremony.
‘They mock us, but I don’t mind. It’s no big deal. In fact, it shows we’re relevant and we’re on the right track, as others feel compelled to criticize us.’
That’s alright. In this profession, you need a tough exterior and a good sense of humor about yourself. So, I expect to receive some criticism when I’m up there on Sunday evening.
I’ll receive various small favors from different folks, and that’s only a piece of the pie. It’s a blast!” This version retains the original meaning while using more colloquial language to make it sound friendly and informal.

In his bold and unapologetic debut, Pang didn’t hold back, making jokes about Married at First Sight, mocking the actors from Home and Away, taking digs at Nine Network executives, and even poking fun at some of the nominees for the Gold Logie award.
This year, much like previous ones, a number of cast members from Married at First Sight have not been included on the official Logie guest list. According to Aiken, this situation is beyond anyone’s control.
He expressed that receiving an invitation is indeed an honor, but ultimately it’s not in our power or the talent’s power to influence. Each year, there will be those who won’t get invited, and unfortunately, we don’t hold the reins on this matter.
Even if the show managed to secure a Logie, Aiken quipped that it could be perilous to allow some of the brides or grooms to accept the award instead.
‘You’d have no idea what they’re going to say,’ he said with a laugh.
These individuals are incredibly courageous, as they’re willing to take risks by participating in the show, and I am truly thankful for their contributions. However, it’s hard to predict what they might do after production ends.
Aiken says that while the Logies may elude them, the show’s reach is undeniable.
John stated that this show is currently in its thirteenth year, and it continues to expand. It’s available in more than 120 nations worldwide and remains popular in our region. By consistently delivering top-notch content, we manage to resonate with audiences,” (paraphrased)

Although the reality show consistently ranks highest annually, it hasn’t received an award during Australia’s most prestigious television event.
‘We have never won anything at the Logies,’ Aiken admitted.
However, we’re quite content with the ratings we’ve received. Ultimately, it’s up to those who choose to cast their votes.
The successful shows typically attract voters through online platforms. However, with Married at First Sight, although we have a large number of dedicated viewers, it appears that they are not participating in the voting process.
Aiken said the team does not measure success by trophies.
He stated that we aren’t participating for a Logie; rather, we find it enjoyable, thrilling, and many people tune in to watch it. The true reward, however, lies in the massive annual audience interaction we receive.
