Sam Heughan mulls what to do after Outlander: "It's been a huge part of my life"

As a dedicated Outlander fan who has journeyed through time and space alongside Jamie Fraser for over a decade, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions as we approach the final chapters of this epic saga. The thought of saying goodbye to my favorite Scottish highlander is almost unbearable, but I must admit that Sam Heughan‘s recent revelation about pickups has given me a glimmer of hope.

Fans of Outlander still have a bit over a year to enjoy their beloved series, as the second part of season 7 begins airing next month, followed by the concluding episodes of season 8 at some point afterwards.

It’s hard to believe, given that the show has been running for more than ten years now, but the cast and crew have actually wrapped up filming for the final season. This was revealed by actor Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser) in a recent episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast.

We shot our final episode – eight seasons, 101 episodes, 11 years, and I go back to work on Monday. We have to do a bunch of pickups. So, yeah, it’s, it’s been a rollercoaster. We’re still a long way off.

By “pickups,” Heughan refers to him and other cast members returning to film certain scenes that require adjustments. However, it seems the show has mostly concluded, leaving Heughan somewhat unsure of his next steps. During an appearance on Today, he expressed, “It’s played a significant role in my life. If you have an extra spot…

Sam Heughan has built such a dedicated fanbase through his portrayal of Jamie that it seems he could take on any project following the end of Outlander. His series Men In Kilts, featuring him and Outlander co-star Graham McTavish exploring Scotland on the production’s expense, has proven to be successful. Given that audiences are interested in watching him tour historical sites, they would likely be captivated by anything he does. I am confident he will continue to thrive.

For fans of “Outlander”, there’s a bit of a wait ahead, but fear not! Starz is preparing a prequel series titled “Outlander: Blood Of My Blood“, scheduled to air after the second part of season 5 but before season 8. This upcoming show will delve into the lives of Jamie and Claire Fraser’s parents, ensuring that the time-traveling love story continues in a new form.

However, we’ll tackle that matter at a later time. In the meantime, the second part of Outlander season 7 will air on Starz this coming Friday, November 22.
