Sam Fender admits he is ‘heartbroken’ as he shares major health update and is forced to cancel upcoming 2024 shows in Glasgow and Newcastle
As a lifestyle expert with extensive experience in the music industry and mental health advocacy, I deeply empathize with Sam Fender’s current situation. It’s heartbreaking to see such a talented artist like him having to cancel shows due to health issues.
Sam Fender disclosed that he suffered a hemorrhage on his right vocal cord, causing him to cancel forthcoming performances in Glasgow and Newcastle.
As a diehard fan, I’ve been eagerly following the steps of my favorite singer-songwriter, who recently turned 30! The countdown ended when he launched his People Watching tour on December 2 in Dublin, and since then, I’ve been tracking him like a treasure hunt. From there, he moved to Leeds, Manchester, London, and finally Birmingham. Every stop along the way feels like a pilgrimage for me!
However, he’s recently informed his followers that he unfortunately needs to scrap the next two events due to health concerns.
Sam disclosed that he’s been battling the flu and, despite giving a performance on Monday evening, he’s now severely damaged his right vocal cord.
Speaking with X, who used to be known as Twitter, he shared: ‘For several days, I’ve been battling the flu. Despite my voice being weakened, I made every effort last night to prepare myself for an outstanding performance.’
Today, I underwent a procedure where they inserted an Ear, Nose, and Throat scope or camera into my throat, and unfortunately, I’ve suffered bleeding on my right vocal cord. I’m utterly devastated by this turn of events.
“This tour has been simply fantastic, and I can’t wait to take the stage once more tonight and serenade you all with my voice.
Sam mentioned that two different Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) specialists have warned him that singing tonight could lead to permanent harm to his voice. He has been instructed to take a break from using his voice and rest it completely for an extended period until it recovers.
I’ve followed every rule to the letter during this tour, living quite ascetically, it’s incredibly unfortunate. I deeply apologize to everyone planning to attend tonight. We are working diligently to find a suitable rescheduling option for you all; updates will be shared shortly. Best regards x.
In about two months from now, Sam will be back on the road again, exactly two years following his UK tour in 2022.
In March 2025, Sam has plans to perform at nine different venues across Europe, including France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, and the Netherlands.
Tickets go on general sale on October 25 at 10am, with fans only limited to buy four tickets each.
A ballet for tickets to his Newcastle gigs is currently open and will close on Monday 21.
Sam has released two albums: Hypersonic Missiles in 2019 and Seventeen Going Under in 2021.
Shortly following the debut of Seventeen Going Under, Sam had to postpone several solo concerts in the U.S., prioritizing his mental well-being instead.
At that point, he expressed his thoughts as follows: ‘It appears inconsistent for me to encourage dialogues on mental health and compose songs about it, if I neglect taking care of my own mental well-being.’
For more than a year, I’ve been putting my own well-being on the back burner and haven’t properly addressed issues that have had a profound impact on me.
As a devoted enthusiast, I can’t seem to find the time or the space to delve into self-improvement when I’m constantly on the move. And let me tell you, maintaining a facade of cheerfulness and good health for professional reasons is draining, to say the least.
Sam, who often performs without charge, expressed on Twitter and Instagram that he was “deeply touched” by the affection and backing of his followers and felt regretful for disappointing them.
Among the flood of support in his comments section was a message from Gwyneth Paltrow.
She said: ‘This is beautiful. We (heart emoji) you. Look after yourself.’
Earlier, the artist from North Shields revealed that the title of his second album, “Seventeen Going Under,” was inspired by his personal battles with mental health issues and his therapy experiences.
He posted on social media: “My overall health is influencing everything I undertake, even my performances. I won’t step up unless I can give it my best each and every time, because that’s what you all deserve.
