According to Screen Daily, the story follows Rabbit as she confronts her past and accepts that she won’t be around for the future. Meanwhile, her loving family must deal with the pain of her loss and figure out what will happen to her 14-year-old daughter, Juliet (Weir).

The film, recently finished shooting in Dublin, is based on a novel by Anna McPartlin. Director O’Hanlon shared that they were immediately captivated by the character of Rabbit Hayes and her unique, humorous Irish family when they first read the book.
Anna’s wonderful screenplay is the reason we’ve assembled such a talented cast and crew. Together, we’ve made a film filled with heartfelt emotions, clever humor, and joyful moments.
As a huge fan of the book, I was so excited to hear that the author, McPartlin – she also wrote those great TV shows *The Gone* and *Striking Out* – was adapting it herself! She explained that *Rabbit Hayes* has always been a story centered around love, laughter, and hope, and I totally get that. It really shines through!
Turning her story into a movie has always been a dream, and getting to share that experience with the amazing cast and crew has been incredibly rewarding. This project means a lot to her personally.
Producer Jessie Fisk shared that “The Last Days of Rabbit Hayes” offers a refreshing take on stories about loss. Rather than being depressing, it focuses on celebrating life, family bonds, and the importance of humor.
