Samantha Armytage has spoken out about speculation she’s dating Barry ‘Bear’ Myrden from The Golden Bachelor. The rumors started after they appeared together on the red carpet at the Logies awards, leading people to believe they’re more than just friends.
On Nova’s Chrissie Swan Show, the former Sunrise host and new host of Channel Nine’s dating show dismissed rumors of a romantic relationship with her older co-star, jokingly saying they were just colleagues.
When asked if she’d ever thought about using her employee discount to pursue someone on the show, Sam jokingly replied, ‘You can’t be the host and then date one of the contestants! That wouldn’t be very fair, would it?’
The comments followed a wave of online rumors suggesting a romantic connection between the show’s host and a contestant who is looking for love after losing his spouse.
She exclaimed, “They’re always pairing me up with someone! Honestly, haven’t you noticed? Whenever I’m near a man, people immediately assume we’re a couple.”
He was fantastic! He’s a friend of mine, and as the host, I was thrilled to have him here – especially since he’s ‘The Golden Bachelor’! All twenty of the women were so excited to meet him, too.
Despite dismissing questions about a potential romance, Armytage enthusiastically praised the show, assuring viewers that The Golden Bachelor will bring something new and exciting to Australian television.
‘This is not like any show I’ve done before or seen before,’ she explained.
You know, as someone who follows these things closely, I can tell you it’s not all about social media. These people genuinely want to find lasting love, and each one has a really compelling story. They’ve lived full lives, they’ve learned from their experiences, and they have a very clear idea of what they want – and, just as importantly, what they absolutely won’t tolerate – in a partner. It’s refreshing to see that level of self-awareness.
Armytage notes that a lot of the people on the show are either divorced or have lost a spouse, and the series focuses on Australians in their 50s and 60s finding love again.
This generation has significant spending power and a strong sense of independence. Having raised their families-and for some, now enjoying grandchildren-they’re confident in who they are and prepared for what comes next.
To help maintain a connection between the Golden Bachelor and his frontrunner, the show reportedly went to great lengths to secretly arrange weekly private meetings for them until the finale aired.
Someone involved in the production process confirmed that the launch was both costly and meticulously planned.
‘They want the public to believe in the love story.’
Bear insisted he was excited about the journey ahead, admitting it all felt ‘very surreal’.
The popular actor hinted at a moving and emotional season ahead for viewers.
Channel Nine is hoping The Golden Bachelor will be a hit, scheduling it immediately after The Block in a clear sign of their confidence in the new dating show.
Those closest to the production insist Sam is simply doing what she does best.
‘It’s just good TV,’ a production insider told Daily Mail.
‘And she’s a pro. She knows exactly how to play the part.’

Bear also promptly dismissed rumors about his dating life, specifically addressing online speculation that he was interested in women outside of the show and that he had a preference for younger women. He clarified this while at the Logies awards.
‘That’s just rumours,’ he told Daily Mail.

Despite all the attention, Bear admitted he was still getting used to his new reality TV fame.
He admitted it was his first time on a red carpet, saying he was new to all of this, but that they were all in the same boat.
