Salma Hayek congratulates Wicked movie team a decade after trying to make the musical into a miniseries
As a dedicated follower of the world of entertainment, I’ve witnessed the evolution of numerous projects over the years, and none more intriguing than the journey of Wicked. Salma Hayek, a trailblazer in her own right, has been a part of this magical tale for nearly two decades, starting with an ambitious eight-hour miniseries.
Universal’s hit musical Wicked has maintained its impressive box office streak, receiving accolades from Salma Hayek.)
Over the weekend, the stage version of the movie directed by Jon M. Chu – setting a new record for highest single-day earnings on Broadway adaptations – grossed an impressive $112.5 million on its opening day.
Hayek posted pictures of herself on the red carpet alongside celebrities Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, offering heartfelt congratulations to the entire team.
For almost two decades, there was great excitement surrounding the development of this eagerly awaited adaptation. However, at one time, Hayek was slated to create a significantly different interpretation of the musical.
In the year 2011, it was planned that Hayek would be involved in creating a television series lasting eight hours, which was to be an adaption of the musical. This musical was inspired by Gregory Maguire’s novel published in 1995, itself based on The Wizard of Oz.

She congratulated Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, and the whole Wicked cast on the enchantment they’ve created for our viewing pleasure!
The tale unfolds in Oz prior to Dorothy Gale’s arrival, as narrated in the iconic 1939 movie “The Wizard of Oz.
In 2003, the play based on the book made its debut on Broadway, and it’s now one of the longest-running shows there, having performed more than 8,100 times.
In 2009, Maguire disclosed that he had given the rights to the musical to ABC for a screenplay adaptation of his novel, which would adhere closely to the book and not incorporate music.
In the year 2011, exactly two years after the initial announcement, ABC declared that Sophia Hayek and her partner, Jose Tamez from Ventanarosa Productions, would assume the role of executive producers.
Erik Jendressen (of Band of Brothers fame) initially planned to pen an eight-hour mini-series, but unfortunately, the project didn’t take flight as intended.
Although the television version didn’t pan out, the film version continued to progress steadily, with potential contenders like Lea Michele and Amy Adams being mentioned for the roles of Glinda and Elphaba respectively, as a dedicated follower closely monitoring the developments.
In 2012, the smashing success of Les Miserables on Broadway paved the way for further advancements in the production of Wicked, even though another full decade would pass before its release.

Last month, Friedrich Hayek grabbed attention following an apparent heated conversation with Nicole Kidman at the Paris Fashion Week event.
The incident transpired at the Balenciaga show during the latest Paris Fashion Week; since then, a video of the heated argument has gained widespread attention online, leading to numerous inquiries on social media regarding its cause.
Amidst the online speculation, Salma, 58, posted a touching tribute to the ‘community’ of people who have ‘continuously uplifted’ her.
A woman, mother to one child and originally from Mexico, shared numerous pictures where she’s seen alongside different Hispanic celebrities from Hollywood, as a tribute for National Hispanic Heritage Month.
In my own words, I’m deeply thankful for the vibrant community that consistently lifts up our shared cultural values, gives strength to our voices, and tirelessly advocates for positive change. As one, we celebrate and preserve our rich heritage.
