Sally Jessy Raphael Celebrates 90th Birthday with Paris Getaway
Sally Jessy Raphael passed a major milestone as she celebrated her 90th birthday on Tuesday.
Over the weekend, the well-known figure from television took a seldom-taken photo while kicking off her celebrations, then set off on a girls’ getaway to Paris with companions.
Over the weekend, I enjoyed a delightful birthday brunch with several of my cherished friends and relatives, as shared by the ex-talk show host with People magazine.
They repeatedly commented, “We can’t imagine you’re ninety!”, but I requested they cease mentioning it since I definitely don’t feel that age.
On that special occasion, the award-winning individual celebrated by gathering loved ones such as grandchildren Max (aged 29) and Kyle (aged 23), prior to departing for their next destination.
Last night, Raphael flew the red-eye to Paris for a girlfriend’s birthday celebration, and look what JetBlue surprised him with as a small token! He shared his delight on social media, saying “I love it,” alongside photos of tasty treats and tagging JetBlue.

Another snap shows her taking in the City of Lights from her hotel balcony.
‘Ah, Paris… it’s so good to be back!’ the feisty redhead penned next to the pic.
Known for her distinctive red eyeglasses, Raphael became the trailblazer in 1983 when she hosted the very first female-led, interactive, and topic-centric talk show – The Sally Jessy Raphael Show.
For a span of three years prior, she hosted live broadcasts, focusing on human-interest tales and contemporary events, before Oprah Winfrey, famous for her adored talk show, began airing.
She won a Daytime Emmy award for Outstanding Daytime Talk Series Host in 1989.
The show, known later as Sally, won a Daytime Emmy in 1990 for Outstanding Daytime Talk Series.
In the 1990s, as competition for ratings intensified with shows like Maury Povich and Jerry Springer, the program started delving into less savory subjects, including the public disclosure of paternity test findings on live television.
On an episode of Oprah: Where Are They Now in 2016, Raphael expressed his dislike for the final years of the Maury Povich/Jerry Springer talk shows.

She confided to Winfrey that some of the people in charge had deceived her into taking that action. Reflecting on it now, she wished she had stood up for herself more forcefully, as she was aware of what was just and what she didn’t want to do.
In 2002, Sally’s television show came to an end, but she didn’t retire just yet. Instead, she continued as a media personality by hosting the daily Sally Jessy Raphael radio show on Talknet from 2005 until 2008.
Back in 2014, I had the privilege of hosting the Logo series “Sally Jessy Raphael,” and I’m thrilled to share that in the future, around 2024, you might catch a glimpse of me in an exciting cameo role on the animated series “Everybody Still Hates Chris.” Stay tuned!
During an interview on Sherri Shepherd’s chat show in May 2024, Raphael shared that she often gathers with her former colleagues. “We enjoy socializing!” she said with a laugh, “After all, there must be a purpose for these reunions.
