SAG AWARDS 2025: Cynthia Erivo, Daniel Craig and Eddie Redmayne lead the Brits bagging nominations
A whole host of UK stars have been shortlisted for this year’s Screen Actors Guild Awards.
In a fascinating turn of events, Daniel Craig and Ralph Fiennes are set to compete against each other in the prestigious Best Actor category. Meanwhile, Cynthia Erivo has been recognized with a nomination for her outstanding portrayal of Elphaba in the box-office sensation, Wicked.
On Wednesday, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) decided to postpone their in-person nominations ceremony due to the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles.
The event is scheduled for February 23rd, where several notable figures from the current UK season, including Nicola Coughlan, Andrew Scott, and Richard Gadd of Baby Reindeer, will be honored.
In the category of Outstanding Male Lead Actor, Daniel was recognized for his performance as William Lee in the film titled ‘Queer’.
The movie chronicles the story of American expatriate and war veteran William, who embarks on a romantic relationship with a younger individual named Eugene Allerton, portrayed by Drew Starkey.
He will battle it out against fellow Brit Ralph Fiennes, who starred as Lawrence in Conclave.
In the adaptation based on Robert Harris’ novel, Ralph played the role of Cardinal Lomeli, portraying a fictional account of events that might occur within the Vatican following the demise of the Pope, with a focus on speculative behind-the-scenes happenings.
They are among the final candidates, joining Adrien Brody (from The Brutalist), Timothée Chalamet (A Complete Unknown), and Colman Domingo (Sing Sing).
In the category of Exceptional Acting by a Female Lead, West End star Cynthia, aged 38, will compete against Pamela Anderson (in The Last Showgirl), Karla Sofía Gascón (Emilia Pérez), Mikey Madison (Anora), and Demi Moore (The Substance).
In the role of Fiyero in the musical, Jonathan Bailey, aged 36 and a fellow actor in the production with her, has been nominated for the Best Supporting Actor award.
And more UK stars have received nominations in the TV categories.
Eddie Redmayne has been nominated for the Outstanding Male Actor Award in the Drama Series category for his role in The Day of the Jackal.

Resources are being reallocated to manage these fires.
