Sadie Frost blasts ‘nepo baby’ label as she insists the success of her four children with ex-husbands Jude Law and Gary Kemp has nothing to do with their famous parentage

I have to say, I really admire Sadie Frost for speaking out about this ‘nepo baby’ talk. She’s absolutely right to defend her children – their achievements are down to their own hard work and talent, not who their parents are. It’s frustrating to see people dismiss their success like that, and I’m glad she’s setting the record straight!

The 60-year-old actress has four children from her two previous marriages, to Gary Kemp and Jude Law. All of her children have pursued careers in the entertainment industry, following in her and her ex-husbands’ footsteps.

Finlay, age 35, is following in his father’s musical footsteps. His father is Gary, a member of the band Spandau Ballet, and Finlay’s parents were married from 1988 to 1995.

Her two sons, Rafferty, 29, and Rudy, 23, both followed in their father Jude’s footsteps by trying their hand at acting.

Sadie and Jude’s daughter, Iris, 25, is a successful model who has worked on many runway shows and in advertising campaigns. She’s also started acting.

Their mother, a filmmaker, has strongly defended her children against claims they’re ‘nepo babies,’ emphasizing that they’ve achieved success through hard work, not just because of their family name.

Even though Sadie grew up around famous people like the Gallaghers, Ewan McGregor, Rhys Ifans, and Jonny Lee Miller, and had Kate Moss and Nick Grimshaw as godparents, she insisted these connections hadn’t given her any advantages.

She explained to the Daily Mail that she doesn’t offer special treatment to anyone based on who they know. Everyone she hires has to go through the standard audition process and earn their position through hard work.

I’ve always believed in pushing yourself to excel at anything you do, but it’s incredibly important to get a good education too – whether that means studying music formally at college, or heading to university for a broader experience. That’s what I always tried to instill in them.

Rafferty benefited from his famous father’s name and good looks, which helped him begin a career in entertainment. He got his first acting role at age 13, playing a younger version of a character his dad had previously portrayed in the movie Repo Man.

Recently, he appeared in Sky’s modern take on Oliver Twist, called Twist, and the Apple TV+ limited series Masters of the Air, which aired last year.

In addition to his other work, he began modeling in 2014 with a runway appearance for DKNY and joined the band Outer Stella Overdrive in 2018.

Rafferty doesn’t seem comfortable with being labeled a ‘nepo baby.’ In a 2020 interview with Wonderland, he acknowledged that growing up in a famous family has had both benefits and drawbacks, but emphasized that he’s always prioritized following his passions and demonstrating his strong work ethic.

He said his parents weren’t particularly for or against his decision to become an actor. They didn’t have strong feelings about it one way or the other.

My family has always encouraged my creative side – they’ve come to see me in school plays since I was a little kid, and they love that my siblings and I pursue our passions, whether it’s acting, music, or writing. They believe that hard work always leads to success.

Rafferty often gets compared to his father, something he finds amusing. As he explained in 2021, it’s natural they look alike, given their family connection.

He shared that he’s been inspired by the work of the Oscar nominee and often asks him for advice. Because they have a lot in common and are very close, the nominee now helps him with scripts and gives feedback on his music, telling him what works well.

Jude has supported Sadie’s praise of Rafferty, noting his son performed very well in Masters of the Air. He also expressed his happiness for Rafferty’s dedication to music and talent as a songwriter, telling People magazine in 2015 that he was ‘thrilled’ by both.

It’s great when someone is enthusiastic about something, and that’s a good place to start. Plus, Rafferty is very down-to-earth and a hard worker. He’s a wonderful person, and I’m very fond of him.

Recent reports to the Daily Mail suggest Rafferty isn’t popular with many actors, who believe he receives opportunities unfairly, getting roles others deserve.

Okay, so I heard something amazing last month from someone who knows things. They said I was getting super close to landing this dream role – like, the final rounds of auditions close! It was everything I’d been working towards. But then… they said Raff would just waltz in at the very last second and somehow snag it. Raff! I can’t even… it’s just not fair! It feels like my whole world is about to be turned upside down, and it’s all because of him.

Iris started her modeling career very young, appearing in Vogue magazine with her family as early as 2002, when she was still a toddler.

After revealing she often consulted with Stella McCartney for guidance, she first appeared on the Miu Miu runway during Paris Fashion Week as a young teenager.

She’s become a successful model, working with major brands like Burberry and Dior. She’s appeared on the cover of British Vogue and in campaigns for Marc Jacobs, JW Anderson, and Burberry. This year, she even made her debut as a Victoria’s Secret Angel at their fashion show.

Iris got her start in acting because of her family connections, appearing in the 2016 film Will Nature Make A Man of Me Yet? alongside Sadie.

In 2021, she shaved her head for the role of Soo Catwoman in Danny Boyle’s TV series about the Sex Pistols, Pistol.

In a 2021 interview with the Evening Standard, she revealed she often asks Jude for advice on acting and navigating her newfound fame. She also shared that she records her auditions with her dad, who provides helpful feedback.

I was raised with strong values that apply to all aspects of life, not just my career. I was always taught to be respectful, punctual, considerate, and a dedicated worker.

Iris has emphasized that she chose her career path herself, explaining that she was a dedicated student and didn’t grow up in a traditionally rebellious or musical family.

She recently told ES Magazine that her parents weren’t the wild, rebellious type when she was a child – they were just regular parents. She pointed out that everyone sees their own parents as ‘cool’ when they think back to their youth, and that’s perfectly normal.

She clarified that she isn’t seeking or worried about the kind of worldwide recognition her famous father has. She explained, ‘I can’t truly understand what it was like to experience fame on the level my dad did.’

‘But I’m not pressing for [fame] and I’m also not pressing against it.’

Following in the footsteps of his siblings, Rudy made his acting debut alongside his mother, Sadie, in the 2003 film Dotty. He recently appeared in the 2023 short film Into the Pass.

According to sources at the Daily Mail, while his siblings have attempted to become independent – even with some help from their parents – the 23-year-old has taken a different path.

Sources close to the situation shared in September that Rudy is currently supported by his parents’ substantial wealth – estimated at £100 million – and doesn’t appear to have any plans for a career.

According to others, he’s unemployed and spends his days at home, living in a house his parents provided.

You know, I’ve been hearing about this guy, and honestly, it sounds like he’s really embracing a pretty carefree lifestyle. He shares a place with a lot of friends and seems to be constantly out and about, hitting up parties. From what I understand, he picks up occasional shifts at a cafe, but it’s definitely not a big focus for him. It’s all about enjoying life and being social, which, hey, more power to him!

Sadie’s oldest child, Finlay, doesn’t seem interested in being famous. As a musician, he prefers to work on the less public side of the industry.

He married his girlfriend of thirteen years, Charlotte Mallory, in 2022. Last November, they had a daughter, Daya Wildrose Mallory Kemp, who is Sadie’s first grandchild.

In 2024, Fin started his own music management company called Virgo Management. Sadie often shows her support for it online.

Despite being a relatively new company, less than two years old, the firm is already proving successful. Several of its artists have contributed to popular songs by major artists like Justin Bieber, Mabel, PinkPantheress, and most recently, Lily Allen’s hit album, West End Girl.
