s1mple replaces SunPayus in Falcons

As a seasoned CS:GO fan with decades of gaming under my belt, I can’t help but feel a rush of excitement seeing s1mple return to the scene. The Ukrainian AWPer has been away for quite some time now, and his skills have been sorely missed. Despite his brief stint with Falcons earlier this year, he was mostly playing as a rifler then. But this time around, it seems like they’ve decided to let him shine as their primary sniper.

The GOAT is coming back.

As I, the gamer, step into the spotlight today, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve been temporarily recruited by the Falcons! The Spaniard Álvaro “SunPayus” García is being momentarily replaced, and I can’t wait to fill his shoes for a whopping three months. This exciting news was officially announced on Friday, Sept. 27. Let’s see what this new journey brings!

As a dedicated fan, I’ve been eagerly following the journey of the Ukrainian AWPer, who found himself sidelined since October 2023. In fact, he’s only managed to play a single professional CS2 match during this period. However, things took a turn in March when he joined Falcons on loan. Regrettably, our beloved AWPer and the team faced defeat at the hands of Metizport during the BLAST Premier Spring Showdown.

Despite some debate about his abilities in Counter-Strike 2, S1mple is widely recognized as the greatest CS:GO player of all time, earning the title of the world’s best player on three separate occasions.

In this instance, there is a notable change since s1mple will primarily serve as the Falcons’ marksman, rather than the role he filled when he joined in March, which was more focused on being a rifler. This switch occurred because the Falcons had recently parted ways with Mohammad “BOROS” Malhas after they failed to qualify for the PGL Copenhagen Major.

Why have Falcons signed s1mple?

As a gamer, I’ve been underwhelmed by our team’s performance this year, with the exception of our impressive semifinal run at IEM Katowice back in February. To make matters worse, SunPayus has been struggling to adapt his skills from CS:GO to CS2, but he seems to be finding his groove lately.

After FaZe Clan knocked out Falcons from the BLAST Premier Fall Final this week, their head coach, Danny “zonic” Sørensen, openly acknowledged during a post-match interview with James Banks that it’s evident Falcons require some adjustments.

As per an article from HLTV.org, it appears that team Falcons had been intending to recruit s1mple for at least a week prior. Furthermore, s1mple was even listed as a substitute for team Falcons in the Perfect World Shanghai Major Europe RMR lineup before the roster freeze on September 22nd.

The HLTV report came out in the same week that s1mple told fans via his Telegram that he’s been training every day and that big news would come. The Ukrainian AWPer played 20 FACEIT matches on Sept. 24, which shows how much he has been grinding.

“I’m returning to LAN, which was my aim from the start – to compete in the Shanghai Major,” wrote s1mple on X. “I’m really happy that there will be official games before we can rectify any issues and participate in this year’s main tournament!

Additionally, it’s worth noting that this isn’t the first significant decision Falcons has made. Reports suggest that the Saudi-backed group has also reached an agreement on terms to recruit G2’s star player, Nikola “NiKo” Kovač, following the Shanghai Major in December.
