Ryan Thomas has revealed the date-night drama he and his fiancée Lucy Mecklenburgh once had.
Former Coronation Street actor Ryan Thomas, 41, recently discussed an incident on his podcast, which he co-hosts with his brothers, Scott and Adam, both 37. He got engaged to TV personality Lucy Mecklenburgh, 34, in 2019.
On the show At Home With The Thomas Bros, he shared a funny story, admitting he’d originally planned to leave it out of the episode, but decided to include it anyway.
He explained that he had planned a date night, making all the arrangements like booking a restaurant and a hotel.
Scott quickly joined the conversation, sharing that he’d already heard about the situation and encouraging his brothers to find out who had told him.
Ryan shared that he was extremely enthusiastic about something. Adam then explained that his advice to Ryan was, whenever you’re hoping a date night will be successful,

No matter how carefully you plan a date night, things rarely go as expected.
Ryan described how the evening started to go wrong: ‘We arrived at the hotel, and the room was great. Then we had dinner at a beautiful new restaurant with a view of all of Manchester.’
It gradually started to bother me. Whenever I tried to talk to someone, it always turned into an argument instead of a normal conversation, and the whole atmosphere just felt wrong.
Things then escalated when Lucy suddenly disappeared from the table.
He said she’d put her coat on, and he initially assumed she’d gone to the restroom. After ten, then fifteen, and finally thirty minutes had passed while he was still waiting, he texted her a joking message saying, “Long toilet break.”
Oh my gosh, you won’t BELIEVE this! He was telling me how he called her, and the line just… died! Like, completely went dead. He tried again, and the same thing happened! That’s when it hit him, you know? He just knew she wasn’t going to pick up, ever. It was so sad, but also… fascinating to hear him describe it like that.
Scott asked: ‘This is in the restaurant?’ to which Ryan replied: ‘This is in the restaurant.
You know, usually when I have a big night planned, I head back to the hotel and treat myself. There was a bottle of champagne waiting for me, and I figured, why not enjoy a single glass? It’s all about those little moments of self-care, even when you’re busy!

Scott shared on the podcast that Lucy had once jokingly texted him requesting one of his “famous foot rubs.”
Adam’s wife had shared a funny dream about Ryan, and Scott responded with a story of his own. He explained that Lucy had asked him for a foot massage, and he even had a video recording with commentary about it, offering to play it for Adam.
A baffled Ryan replied: ‘Shut up’, and Scott then reached for his phone to find the message.
Adam joked: ‘So my wife is dreaming of Ryan and Lucy’s texting you to go round for a foot rub?’
Ryan said: ‘There’s no way’, before turning to Scott and asking: ‘You give her a foot rub?’
Scott quickly corrected himself, explaining, ‘My mistake, it wasn’t a voiceover at all. I’m not sure why I initially thought it was – I’ve already sent the file back.’
He relayed her message: she just needed to rest on the sofa for a few weeks and would love a foot rub if he was willing to give her one.
As a crew member let out a ‘woo’ in the background, Ryan looked wide-eyed at the camera.
Scott added: ‘No, no, obviously Lucy’s not been too well, has she.’
Ryan said he hadn’t realized what was happening, and Scott told him, “She mentioned something in the family chat – you need to rejoin it.”

Ryan and Lucy, parents to five-year-old Roman and three-year-old Lilah, previously shared that they sleep in separate bedrooms, and this news follows that revelation.
Lucy explained: ‘Basically, we sleep in separate bedrooms because Ryan is a nightmare sleeper.’
Okay, so my husband Ryan definitely keeps me on my toes at night! He snores, talks in his sleep, and, well, sometimes accidentally ‘whacks’ me – it’s all part of the package, honestly. I’ve gotten so used to it that it’s just normal now. But, if I’m being totally real, there are times when I sneak off to sleep with our dog, Roman. Don’t judge – everyone needs a good night’s sleep!
The Daily Mail recently reported that Ryan, Adam, and Scott Thomas are known in their hometown of Manchester for being less cheerful and approachable than they seem on TV. Some locals even say they aren’t very popular in the area.
According to a source close to the brothers, they carefully craft a friendly image for television. They understand how to play the public perception game, and a few years ago, they joined a major talent agency believing they were on the verge of stardom.
However, these individuals are often very driven in their personal lives and can come across as entitled when they’re out in public. Their arrival at places like bars or restaurants usually causes a noticeable commotion.
They act like they’re better than everyone else. People often quickly leave when they arrive, and many say arguing with them is difficult – they have a noticeable air of arrogance that hasn’t gone unnoticed.
Some people also describe the brothers as quite harsh, pointing to the way they abruptly fired a former agent who had been instrumental in building their careers. They replaced him with a larger, more high-profile agency.

Ryan first became well-known in 2000 when he started playing the role of Jason Grimshaw on Coronation Street as a young actor.
He gained public attention when he began dating his Coronation Street co-star, Tina O’Brien, who plays Sarah Louise Platt. In 2018, he appeared on Celebrity Big Brother and became involved in a public dispute with Roxanne Pallett, an actress from Emmerdale, who claimed he had physically assaulted her.
She apologized afterwards, saying she’d reacted too strongly. Ryan is now engaged to Lucy, who previously appeared on The Only Way Is Essex.
His younger brother, Adam, also became an actor, appearing in the medical drama Doctors, the BBC soap Waterloo Road, and later Emmerdale.
He later found success on reality TV, appearing on I’m A Celebrity in 2016.
Adam’s twin brother, Scott, is also a reality TV star. He competed on Love Island in both 2016, where he made it to the final, and again in 2025 for a celebrity version of the show.
He now runs a successful influencer management company, The Social PR, located in central Manchester.
As a result, the trio are a recognisable presence on Manchester’s party scene.
