Scarlett Thomas, the daughter of Ryan Thomas, was overjoyed and cried when she received a recording studio as a surprise gift for her 17th birthday this week.
The 41-year-old former Coronation Street actor wanted to do something memorable for the up-and-coming singer, so he built her a dedicated space to write songs.
Scarlett, who stars in Waterloo, is the 42-year-old Tina O’Brien’s daughter. Tina and Ryan separated in 2009.
Even though Scarlett is proving to be a talented actress, she’s decided to focus on a music career and didn’t take her GCSE exams this summer.
Ryan posted a heartwarming video on Instagram of him giving Scarlett a gift she’d always wanted, along with a Drake album. He included a lovely message with the video.
He explained that he wanted to create something special for Scarlett’s birthday, knowing how much she loves to sing. He hoped the gift would be a relaxing space where she could focus on her passion.
I built a home studio in the basement as a surprise, and seeing her reaction made all the effort worthwhile.
I absolutely love the art @jakehall created for the studio – he’s a true talent! He did this really cool project where he asked me to share five of my favorite memories, then five words that best describe Scarlett, and finally, five words she used to describe her dad. It was such a personal and moving piece.
You know, every time I look at it, I discover something new. It’s incredibly meaningful to both me and my daughter – it really captures our journey together and all we’ve experienced. I’m so thankful for this gift, it means the world to us.

The Waterloo Road actress sounded fantastic in a short video, sharing that she was having a great time recording in the studio.
She frequently posts singing videos on TikTok and has said she hopes to pursue a career in entertainment, like the rest of her family.
Some reports suggest that Scarlett’s potential future income could make up for the fact that she left school to become an actress.
The young actress first gained recognition in 2023 when she appeared in the BBC drama Waterloo Road, playing the character of Izzy, who happened to be the daughter of her actual uncle, Adam Thomas.
She comes from a well-known family: her father is actor Ryan, known for his role in ‘Corrie,’ and her mother is Tina, who also starred in the show. Plus, her uncle is reality TV star Scott Thomas from ‘Love Island’.
Despite her growing success as an actress, her father, Ryan, has maintained that she isn’t receiving any unfair advantages due to her family connections.
She’s becoming a star both on television and online, and experts estimate she’ll earn as much as £2 million before she turns eighteen.
A recent TikTok video from the young creator went viral, earning almost three million views. She’s quickly gained a large following, with over 204,000 followers on TikTok and 142,000 on Instagram. She started both accounts when she turned sixteen last October.
She’s frequently featured on her parents’ social media, and the whole Thomas family even has their own account.
This includes her famous uncles as well as Ryan’s former TOWIE star fiancée Lucy Mecklenburgh.
PR professional Lynn Carratt observed that the family is very close and skilled at using platforms like TikTok to advance their individual careers. They successfully leverage popular trends, and each family member possesses unique talents.
She explained that the family’s TikTok videos are a great way to showcase their talents to a large number of people, which is fantastic from a public relations standpoint.
She continued, explaining that Teddy is very talented and it looks like his children will also pursue creative careers, just like their father and uncles. Scarlett frequently appears in videos with her dad and uncles, demonstrating her abilities as a singer and actress. Growing up with parents in television, Scarlett has clearly inherited their talent. She seems like a confident, friendly girl who has a strong family connection.
Lynn explained that the Thomas family’s videos are successful because they cleverly highlight each family member’s unique personality and skills, reaching millions of viewers every day.
This method is getting them more recognition than appearing on regular TV, and it’s leading to many new job possibilities for everyone in the family.
I think Scarlett and her cousin Teddy have bright futures in entertainment. As Scarlett gets older, I could definitely see her being in a girl group.
In an interview with The Sun, Ryan previously explained that his daughter’s career beginnings were fair and that she didn’t have an unfair advantage because of who her father is.
He said: ‘Everyone thinks she gets a lift up from family, getting on Waterloo Road.
I really feel like people don’t understand how much effort she put into landing that job. She’s incredibly talented, and it’s easy to forget she’s competing with others who are also qualified – she definitely earned her place and isn’t getting any special treatment.
He explained that she had to compete fairly for the position, just like any other candidate. It wasn’t a predetermined decision – she wasn’t automatically chosen for the job.
