Ryan Seacrest reveals his father has died aged 81 after cancer battle… as host pays heartbreaking tribute

Ryan Seacrest took to Instagram on Friday to share heartbreaking family news.

Ryan Seacrest announced the passing of his father, Gary Lee Seacrest, who was 81 years old, sharing a heartfelt message and family photo online.

The producer of Keeping Up With The Kardashians shared the sad news that her father passed away peacefully earlier this week.

We’re deeply saddened by his passing, but find comfort in knowing he’s now at peace and no longer in pain. It’s a difficult time for my mom, sister, and me.

Ryan shared a heartfelt message about his father, describing him as a loving husband of 56 years, a wonderful grandfather to Flora, and his closest friend. He concluded by saying, ‘Dad, you’ll always be in our hearts. I love you.’

A family photo was shared, and in the background, a birthday cake was visible on a table, along with his mother, Constance Marie, and sister, Meredith.

A nostalgic photo also surfaced, showing a younger Ryan wearing a dark suit, a red striped tie, and glasses.

Gary worked as a real estate lawyer and had been a lieutenant in the U.S. Army.

Ryan’s father was diagnosed with prostate cancer several years ago.

During a broadcast in July 2025, Ryan Seacrest spoke about the challenging time his father went through with pneumonia. His father was hospitalized in the intensive care unit, but thankfully, he made a full recovery.

The Wheel of Fortune host shared that his father’s cancer treatments continued, and it was a difficult time for everyone in the family.

He shared on the July 21st episode of On Air with Ryan Seacrest that he’s very close to his father, who is around 80 years old.

Oh gosh, it just breaks my heart thinking about it. My dad got diagnosed with prostate cancer a while back, and he started treatment, but… it just didn’t work. It actually got worse. It spread, and honestly, it was so tough to watch. It didn’t go well at all, and I still think about it constantly.

The pneumonia news hit when he was on a live show.

He shared that during a live episode of American Idol last season, his sister called with urgent news: their father had been admitted to the ICU and she needed him to come immediately.

I managed to finish the show, but I was really losing it by the end. I was so out of it that I couldn’t even recall what I was talking about – it felt like I was just going through the motions.

But they made the most of it.

He recalled seeing photos over the weekends of them smiling, happy, and enjoying each other’s company. They’d been married for 55 years, and he knew they had a strong connection.

You know, I’ve realized something lately – true happiness isn’t about grand gestures. It’s about those simple, quiet moments. I was thinking about a couple just enjoying each other’s company, gazing out at the ocean, and it struck me how beautiful that is. I’ve been keeping that thought to myself for a while, but I wanted to share it because it really resonated with me – sometimes, that’s all you need.

Ryan was last seen on October 17th in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, at a panel discussion called ‘Stage Architects: Nations — Festivals — Awards x Media’ held as part of the 2025 Joy Forum at the SEF Arena.
