Ryan Reynolds says parents today are ‘so soft’ in comparison to when he was growing up as he opens up about his and wife Blake Lively’s parenting style
As a fellow admirer of Ryan Reynolds’ charm and wit, I find myself deeply moved by his heartfelt reflections on parenting. Growin’ up, I was always a fan of his action-packed movies, but now, I appreciate him even more for his candidness about personal growth.
Ryan Reynolds commented that current parents are “much more tender” and “noticeably distinct” from the ones he knew while growing up as a child.
47-year-old actor shared insights into how he and his wife, Blake Lively, approach parenting at the HubSpot’s INBOUND tech conference held in Boston on Friday, as reported by Us Weekly.
He said that, nowadays, parents ‘don’t yell,’ and kids do not face ‘improvised militia’ like he experienced in his childhood.
During the gathering, he reminisced about attending a seminar on resolving conflicts. He claimed that this seminar significantly altered his viewpoint and had a profound impact on his life.
His confession follows closely on the heels of them, him and Lively, openly displaying affection while walking together in New York City, amid rumors that he aims to rehabilitate her professional standing following the controversies surrounding her latest film, “It Ends With Us.
He confessed that at times, he found it challenging to understand or cope with his feelings, which is why he was keen on attending the workshop and gaining insight into himself.
‘Because I [had a] scarcity mindset when I was younger,’ he continued.
I wasn’t aware of the method to unravel the part of your mind that instinctively drives you to triumph or prove yourself correct.
He added: ‘Something I love about [conflict resolution], and I know this is not very fancy, but what I love about it is that you can meet somebody where they are and you don’t have to be right or wrong. You can disagree and still connect.’
Although he’s gotten better at dealing with his emotions, he mentioned that his kids, being young, are still in the process of learning how to handle their feelings.
He mentioned that he has four children who, thus far, don’t appear to harbor a scarcity mentality. A significant factor contributing to this, he joked, is that they were fortunate enough to be born in more comfortable circumstances.
‘Parents today are so different,’ he continued.
He remarked, “We’re incredibly gentle.” He continued, “I don’t resort to shouting. Growing up was quite unusual – it was more like a makeshift military group.

He said that the changes with his generation’s parenting style are for the better.
Now, I have the opportunity to revisit all my parenting resources, serving as a reminder on how to approach each situation with utmost compassion.
Reynolds and Lively are parents to three daughters — James, nine, Inez, seven, and four-year-old Betty — as well as one-year-old son Olin.
The longtime couple got married in September 2012.
