Fans are playfully teasing Ryan Reynolds about a somewhat awkward email he sent to Colleen Hoover, the author of ‘It Ends With Us‘.
An email from Ryan Reynolds, 49, was recently made public as part of the ongoing legal dispute between his wife, Blake Lively, 38, and actor Justin Baldoni, 41. The lawsuit stems from a film directed by Baldoni, which was based on a popular novel.
Oh my god, you will NOT believe this! The Daily Mail got their hands on emails, and apparently, just ONE DAY after the premiere of ‘Fly Me to the Moon’ on August 10th, 2024, Ryan Reynolds emailed Herbert Hoover – yes, THAT Herbert Hoover! – and basically bragged that the movie was a ‘complete fg WIN!’ I mean, can you even?! He was SO right, obviously, but the fact he was celebrating that quickly and to Hoover is just… everything. It’s pure Reynolds brilliance, honestly.
He also appeared to make fun of Baldoni, previously calling him a ‘dumb-dumb’ in private messages. In one message, he wrote that he was sorry to hear about Baldoni and his team getting sick in New York, adding sarcastically that the illness might be their bodies getting rid of ‘any residual Baldoni’.
He said he’d honestly prefer something awful, like being sick in a prison camp, to pretending to be a feminist while just trying to feel better about himself with empty self-help slogans.
The Daily Mail has contacted representatives for both Reynolds and Baldoni, but they haven’t received a response yet.
‘I know the road isn’t always easy or clear. When you’re a creator and apex storyteller like you, I can imagine it takes a very resolute mind and heart to process all the strange people with muddled intentions trying to warm their hands on your light,’ the actor wrote.
He was incredibly enthusiastic, exclaiming how impressed he was that they had succeeded. He specifically praised Colleen and said the film was receiving a fantastic response from audiences, who were clearly embracing it.
You and B created something amazing despite unexpected challenges. That’s what makes you and the entire post-production team so valuable.
The email continued, saying the sender was aware everyone involved lived privileged lives and felt fortunate. However, they also expressed genuine appreciation for the character of the recipients, A and B. They described witnessing a humbling and satisfying situation – seeing deserving people firmly correct the misbehavior of others in public – as something they wouldn’t forget.
Scarlett Johansson’s ex-partner continued to express his admiration for the author and his wife, saying he could write pages more about how much this meant to him. He praised the entire team for their hard work and noted that even Sony exceeded his expectations. Ultimately, he shared that he was deeply proud and inspired by the author and his wife.
Okay, so everyone else seems… confused? Honestly, I think Ryan Reynolds being so involved is amazing! But a lot of people online are saying his long email was just… embarrassing and that he came across as really self-centered. I just don’t see it! I think he’s passionate, and they’re just jealous he cares so much about his work. Seriously, some of the comments are brutal, calling it ‘cringe’ and saying he’s got a huge ego. I think they’re missing the point!
‘All of a sudden I appreciate my husband’s one word text responses,’ one person quipped.
Many also pointed out that both Reynold and Lively’s email have a tendency to be lengthy.
Honestly, it drives me crazy! Everything I’ve read by these guys – seriously, everything from him and Blake – is SO unnecessarily long-winded. It’s like they’re getting paid by the word! I swear, do they have some kind of app that forces them to use a certain word count? It’s just… frustrating! I love their ideas, but wading through all that extra fluff is exhausting.
‘After reading excerpts from how him and Blake speak…they’re made for each other.’
He could have simply congratulated her right away, but instead, he avoided her and sent a self-important email.
‘I now have a tummy bug after reading that,’ another joked.
I’m actually feeling better about all my embarrassing old texts and emails after seeing this. The jokes kept coming, with someone else quipping that they couldn’t afford the data to keep up with the conversation.
‘Him talking about performative feminism lol,’ someone else wrote.
A genuinely supportive person would have simply offered congratulations and suggested a celebration. It’s surprising this movie even got a theatrical release when it feels like it should have gone straight to home video.
Can you believe someone could ruin their own and their partner’s life – their reputation and job – all because of a movie based on a Colleen Hoover novel?
Someone else wondered why Reynolds and Lively were even part of the movie, adding, “Ugh,” after accusations surfaced that they were overshadowing director Adam Baldoni.
Their communication feels really manipulative, and they constantly bring up Justin in every message. It’s like they’re fixated on him.
In newly released text messages, Reynolds referred to Baldoni with a dismissive nickname and suggested his wife played a key role in the film’s box office performance.
Reynolds was upset that the actor-director and his team didn’t publicly address the issues after reports of conflict on set started spreading.
Reynolds believes that Baldoni and others involved should directly address the rumors and speculation. He urges them to proactively and emphatically counter the gossip immediately.
Reynolds discussed ways to protect his wife from negative press, worried she’d be unfairly portrayed as a demanding or controlling person due to reports of conflict on set.
Reynolds stated that Baldoni and his colleagues need to defend Lively, and that they should take responsibility for their problematic behavior before it comes back to haunt them. He believes they should address the many instances of inappropriate conduct themselves.
They created a significant mess, and Blake absolutely should not be responsible for cleaning it up. It was a really sloppy and unoriginal disaster.
Reynolds expressed his strong disappointment, saying Blake deserved to be enjoying this victory, as she was the one who achieved it through incredible effort.
‘She made this a win for Sony and by proxy, Wayfarer.’
Reynolds shared that Lively was incredibly dedicated to the film, working tirelessly and sacrificing time with her children. She reportedly worked around the clock, meticulously reviewing and refining every detail to ensure the highest possible quality.
Reynolds also stated that Baldoni had strained relationships with other people working on the film.
Reynolds stated that neither the actors nor the main crew – including Colleen – will be near this person. He also mentioned that everyone involved has, at some point in the last six months, stopped following him on social media.
‘Not one person has said Justin’s name out loud in any interview at any time.’
Reynolds suggested that Baldoni and producer Jamey Heath should have proactively released a public statement addressing the initial criticism, and he even wrote a sample letter for them to use.
The fake letter stated that their actions on the IEWU set were terrible and didn’t show the respect that Colleen Hoover and Blake Lively deserved.
And let’s not forget the dedicated cast and crew who worked hard despite a difficult and complicated filming process.
Reynolds stated that Baldoni and his team should have acknowledged they were trying to figure out why their workplace lacked clear boundaries, protections, respect, and basic decency.
We want to be genuinely responsible, not just appear to be doing good. The film, IEWU, is succeeding on its own merits, not because of anything we did to help.
As a longtime follower of this case, it’s hard to believe it’s been over a year since Lively and Baldoni started their legal fight. I’ve been keeping up with everything, and the latest updates are really starting to come in now.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been following the recent news, and it’s heartbreaking to see the allegations that have come to light. In December 2024, actress Lively took legal action against Baldoni, claiming she experienced sexual harassment and that he retaliated against her. She also alleges he intentionally caused her emotional distress, including hurtful comments about her body and attempts to harm her professional reputation. It’s a really difficult situation, and I hope it leads to a positive outcome for everyone involved.
The lawsuit also included Baldoni’s business partners, such as his company Wayfarer Studios, its CEO, investors, and public relations team.
Baldoni initially sued The New York Times for $250 million, claiming a report damaged his reputation. He later increased the amount to $400 million in a lawsuit filed in January 2025.
He sued Blake Lively, her husband, and her publicist, Leslie Sloane, but the case was dropped in June.
All parties have denied the allegations against them.
