Ryan Reynolds lines up new superhero movie
As a seasoned gamer and a die-hard fan of superheroes, I can’t help but feel a wave of nostalgia upon hearing about Ryan Reynolds’ latest venture into the world of animation with Mighty Mouse. Growing up, I remember spending countless hours glued to the screen, watching the brave little mouse take down foes twice his size in the Saturday morning cartoons.
Ryan Reynolds is lining up a new superhero movie.
More recently, the actor once again took on the character of the anti-hero Deadpool in Marvel’s hit film “Deadpool & Wolverine.” After premiering this past summer, the movie grossed over $1 billion globally.
As reported by Variety, Paramount Animation has chosen Reynolds’ production company, Maximum Effort Productions, to produce a new movie featuring the iconic character: Mighty Mouse.
Initially appearing in the 1942 short film titled “The Mouse of Tomorrow,” this well-known mouse character subsequently appeared in numerous other shorts and starred in the Saturday morning cartoon series, “Mighty Mouse Playhouse,” which aired from 1955 to 1967.
The character was revived in the 1979 show The New Adventures of Mighty Mouse and Heckle & Jeckle, and again in 1987 with Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures.
Paramount Animation is planning to produce a live-action version of the animated series, and Matt Lieberman, who collaborated with Reynolds on the 2021 film “Free Guy,” has been assigned to pen the screenplay.
At the moment, no specifics about the cast or characters for the movie have been finalized yet.
News has surfaced not long ago that Reynolds has planned another collaboration with Hugh Jackman and director Shawn Levy, who worked on Deadpool and Wolverine, for a fresh project outside the Marvel universe which Reynolds is now penning.
He shared with Variety last month that he will be devoting the entire year to scriptwriting. Specifically, he’s working on a film project where he, along with Hugh Jackman and Shawn Levy, will star – but this won’t be a Marvel production.
The actor was also recently asked about the potential return of Deadpool in the next Avengers movie, Avengers: Doomsday, which is due out in May 2026. He neither confirmed nor denied whether this could be a possibility.
“I’m not even being cagey,” he said, laughing. “We’ll see what happens there.”
