Ryan Reynolds claims he welcomes dissent on film sets amid wife Blake Lively’s workplace legal battle with Justin Baldoni

Ryan Reynolds stated he encourages his employees to voice differing opinions, especially considering his wife, Blake Lively, is currently involved in a legal dispute with her ‘It Ends with Us’ co-star, Justin Baldoni, stemming from their work together.

Ryan Reynolds, known for his role as Deadpool, spoke at The Wall Street Journal CMO Council Summit last Tuesday. He is 49 years old.

The famous actor told Maryam Banikarim, who leads the WSJ Leadership Institute, that he believes a successful company needs to explore many different ideas.

‘I’m screwed if people start agreeing with me because I’m the boss or something,’ Reynolds said.

Ryan Reynolds is successful not just in the entertainment industry as an actor and producer through his Maximum Effort company, but also in other businesses like alcohol, telecommunications, and sports.

Daily Mail has reached out to reps for both parties for further comment on the story. 

Reynolds has expressed regret about not being a stronger leader during the making of the 2011 film Green Lantern – a movie his two-year-old son, Olin, apparently enjoys watching ‘every single day.’

Reynolds explained that he’s worked hard to reach a point where he can see past mistakes without dwelling on what could have been done differently.

Reynolds explained in the interview that he used to take a more laid-back approach to his career. Around 15 years ago, he was landing leading roles in movies like ‘Definitely Maybe’ (2008) and ‘The Proposal’ (2009).

Reynolds described his work style as extremely deferential – always saying ‘yes, sir’ and ‘no, sir’ and eager to please. He explained that he did this even though he often had his own strong beliefs, carefully keeping them to himself to navigate workplace dynamics.

Reynolds explained that being a lead actor meant he was always under scrutiny, and this pushed him to be more proactive and take control on film sets, whether he spoke up or stayed silent.

Reynolds explained that he doesn’t want people to say his movies failed because of someone else. He prefers to be directly responsible for both the successes and failures of his projects, wanting to be in control of the outcome either way.

Reynolds explained that when leading projects, he confidently takes charge when he’s certain about a direction, but still encourages his team to give him honest and critical feedback, especially during the writing process.

‘I say, here’s the s***** version, and I’m saying that because I want dissent,’ Reynolds said. 

Reynolds explains that he feels sick when he realizes people are only pretending to agree with him because he’s famous.

Reynolds explained he enjoys it when people don’t just say ‘yes’ to his ideas, but instead offer suggestions and improvements, even if it’s just a lot of different ideas thrown out there.

He said that it’s the type of discussion that paves way to creative revelations.

Reynolds explained that things quickly move from initial discussion to actually making exciting and creative ideas happen.

Ryan Reynolds, who has four children with Blake Lively, explained that his kids think of him as successful because of the positive attention he receives when he’s out in public.

He expressed his biggest concern about the environment being discussed. He explained that when he’s out in public, people are overly friendly and constantly ask for pictures, and he usually agrees. He worries his children are only seeing this superficial side of things.

I’ve realized it’s important to discuss what doesn’t work, because those failures are actually the foundation for all future success.

The 2024 film ‘It Ends with Us’ brought in $148 million at the box office in the US and $350 million worldwide. However, any positive feelings towards the movie have been lost due to recent accusations against the actors involved.

The film featured Jenny Slate, Hasan Minhaj, Brandon Sklenar, and Kevin McKidd, and was adapted from Colleen Hoover’s 2016 novel.

The movie’s plot focused on the unhealthy and damaging relationship between Lily Bloom, portrayed by Blake Lively, and Ryle Kincaid, played by Justin Baldoni.

The movie follows Lily, who is trying to build a new life after a difficult childhood. She meets a neurosurgeon and they connect, but she soon discovers troubling similarities between him and her own parents.

As a longtime supporter of Lively, I was deeply saddened to learn that last December, she filed a lawsuit against Baldoni. She alleged he sexually harassed her, acted in retaliation, and intentionally caused her emotional distress. It’s a difficult situation, and I stand with her as she seeks justice.

The actress filed a lawsuit claiming that Baldoni sexually harassed her, made demeaning comments about her body, and tried to ruin her career with a deliberate campaign to damage her reputation.

In her legal complaint, Lively identified several people who worked with Baldoni, such as his production company Wayfarer Studios, its CEO and primary investor, and those handling publicity.

Baldoni first sought $250 million in damages from The New York Times due to a report they published. He later combined this claim with a $400 million lawsuit he’d already filed in January.

Baldoni filed a lawsuit naming Blake Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and Lively’s publicist, Leslie Sloane, referencing the previously mentioned report. However, the case was dismissed in June.

All parties have denied all of the allegations against them.
