Ryan Reynolds accused of mocking Justin Baldoni in Deadpool & Wolverine with inside joke

In a playful move that appears to leverage his clout and connections, Ryan Reynolds fashioned a Deadpool and Wolverine caricature resembling Justin Baldoni, possibly in response to the tension between Baldoni and Blake Lively, as stated by Baldoni’s legal representative on Tuesday.

The assertion emerged during the ongoing legal disputes between Lively and Baldoni, with Lively, aged 37, alleging sexual misconduct by Baldoni, 40, during the production of It Ends With Us. Conversely, Baldoni has filed a lawsuit against The New York Times for defamation, citing a malicious smear campaign.

Attorney Bryan Freedman, in an appearance on The Megyn Kelly Show, stated unequivocally that Reynolds, aged 48, undoubtedly utilized his creative authority over the Marvel summer blockbuster to make a private joke at the expense of the It Ends With Us actor-director.

According to Freedman, it appears that Ryan Reynolds leveraged his authority and impact, particularly on the Deadpool character, to poke fun at Justin Baldoni – as suggested by the character called Nicepool.

Dailymail.com has reached out to reps for Reynolds and Lively for further comment on this story. 

On Tuesday, Kelly played a video featuring the Nicepool character, who sported a manbun similar to Baldoni’s in the past, and had dialogue indicating support for social activism, as well as mentioning Lively’s Ladypool character and her pregnancy. She then posed the question to Freedman about his thoughts on this.

Freedman responded, “In my opinion, if someone’s spouse experiences sexual harassment, they shouldn’t joke about Justin Baldoni or the incident; instead, they should treat it with utmost seriousness.

Freedman stated that by using humor to address grievances with Baldoni, Reynolds may be undermining the validity of the sexual harassment allegations that Lively has brought forth in her lawsuit against the movie director.

Freedman pointed out that instead of taking Lively’s sexual harassment claims seriously, Reynolds’ comedy sketch with Baldoni might make those accusations seem less credible in the lawsuit against the filmmaker.

Freedman stated, “Avoid making light of the situation by making fun of the person, instead. The correct approach is to report such incidents through Human Resources and go through the appropriate legal procedures.

He added: ‘If someone is sexually harassed, you don’t make fun of it – it’s a serious issue.’ 

Freedman stated that the characteristics portrayed in the Nicepool character were intended as a playful jab, aimed at mocking Baldoni and potentially embarrassing him, in a comedic manner.

Without a doubt, it’s clear that this pertains to Justin, Freedman stated. In other words, anyone who observes it – the distinctive hairstyle (the hair bun), along with the mention of pregnancy – it’s not hard to discern the intended reference.

According to Freedman, it’s highly likely that Reynolds will be involved in a lawsuit concerning the novel “It Ends With Us”. Furthermore, Freedman mentioned that Reynolds played a significant role in Blake Lively gaining control over the same book.

At a lively premiere event, Reynolds was incorrectly asserted by Freedman to have written a scene in the romantic drama, which he then shared with Kelly.

The surprising assertions left Sony’s officials and film crew members in a state of surprise, given that only Christy Hall and Colleen Hoover were listed as writers for the movie; however, Baldoni managed the awkward predicament with poise.

Freedman stated, “That’s the first time they’ve encountered this situation, but Justin manages it exceptionally well without labeling her as a liar or finding it inappropriate. Instead, he handles her graciously.

The emergence raised questions among bold spectators of Deadpool and Wolverine, as they speculated if this situation in Nicepool might be a subtle jibe directed towards Baldoni following the disclosure of his strained relationship with the high-profile duo during the production of It Ends With Us.

The films featuring Deadpool and Wolverine, which also stars Hugh Jackman, were simultaneously produced, with Ryan Reynolds penning the script for them.

In the movie, Deadpool and Wolverine cross paths with a unique character, a version of Deadpool I’ll call “Nicepool.” Interestingly enough, this character was portrayed by none other than Ryan Reynolds, just like our regular Deadpool. The twist? Nicepool sports a man bun – a hairstyle reminiscent of the one Vin Diesel, a fellow action star, wore for quite some time. Quite an interesting nod to pop culture, wouldn’t you agree?

Baldoni often expresses his belief in feminism both openly and publicly. In a TED talk from 2017, entitled ‘I’ve Had Enough of Trying to Be a “Real Man”‘, he shared his thoughts on this topic.

In the months leading up to the start of filming “It Ends With Us,” Lively welcomed their fourth child, a son named Olin, who was born lively and Reynolds.

In both lawsuits, she claims that Baldoni frequently undermined her by privately criticizing her physical appearance and weight.

In her lawsuits, Lively claims that Baldoni engaged in unplanned, unscripted physical affection without any prior discussion or coordination by an intimacy coach, according to her allegations.

In his lawsuit against The New York Times, Baldoni claims that Lively declined to collaborate with the on-set intimacy consultant to design the movie’s intimate scenes.

Last month, Lively claimed in her lawsuit that Baldoni had publicly criticized her weight (body-shaming), attempted to insert extra intimate scenes into the movie, displayed explicit pictures and videos to her, violated her boundaries by continuing to kiss her during filming, and broke character on set.

As a lifestyle expert, I would rephrase that statement as follows: In court papers, it was alleged that Baldoni orchestrated a campaign aimed at socially influencing people with the intention of damaging my reputation beyond repair.

A day after filing the complaint, Lively expressed hope that her legal action would expose hidden retaliatory strategies used against those speaking out about misbehavior, thereby safeguarding others who might face similar situations.

Baldoni has denied all of the claims against him in Lively’s legal filing.

After filing the complaint, Baldoni has experienced several professional repercussions, such as a legal action from a previous representative, and being let go by the agency WME, who also handle clients like Lively and Reynolds.

Baldoni alleges that Reynolds shouted at him during the crucial gathering for their project, which took place at their home.

During a gathering with fellow producers and a Sony representative, it’s reported that Reynolds forcefully implicated Baldoni in a series of transgressions towards his wife. Among these accusations were instances of body shaming her.

Baldoni described the meeting as ‘distressing,’ indicating it was a form of speech he had never experienced before throughout his entire life.

A trustworthy confidant of Reynolds refuted this allegation, stating that while Reynolds displayed strong emotions and firmness, his actions didn’t qualify as shouting, according to eyewitnesses who spoke to TMZ.

Baldoni is suing The Times in response to a lawsuit filed by Lively, which accuses him of sexual harassment, retaliation, breaking a contract, causing emotional distress, invading privacy, and depriving her of earnings. However, Baldoni denies these allegations against him.

On December 21st, she first lodged a complaint with the California Civil Rights Department. Later, by the end of the month on December 31st, she initiated a federal lawsuit against him.

According to someone familiar with the situation, it’s expected that Baldoni will file a lawsuit against Lively in the near future.

The movie titled “It Ends with Us,” featuring Jenny Slate, Hasan Minhaj, Brandon Sklenar, and Kevin McKidd, premiered on August 9 and was well-received by viewers.

The movie based on the 2016 novel by Colleen Hoover brought in a total of $148 million at the U.S. box office and an additional $350 million worldwide, as reported by Box Office Mojo.
