Wave goodbye to Ryan Gosling’s “La La Hand.”
To mark the 10th anniversary of the Oscar-winning film “La La Land,” Lionsgate has updated the movie poster, altering the position of the actor’s hand.
It seems the city has been waiting for him to shine – it just took ten years for his talent to be recognized.
Ryan Gosling says he’s been bothered by his palm-down hand gesture ever since it was first used on the movie’s posters and DVD/Blu-ray covers.
In a 2024 interview with the Wall Street Journal Magazine, when asked if there was a role he’d revisit, he said it would be his performance in “La La Land.”
I remember one specific moment while filming with Emma Stone where we were dancing. It ended up being used as the movie poster! I just assumed we were meant to hold our hands up, so I decided to put mine flat – I didn’t realize it would become such a prominent image.
Everyone told him it wasn’t cool, but he stuck with it, Gosling said.

Although “La La Land” didn’t win Best Picture at the Oscars, the movie – which was filmed in Southern California – is predicted to attract more high-spending tourists to the area.
Looking back, I realize a different pose would have been much better. The way it is now really brings the energy down. I even have a nickname for it – ‘La La Hand’.
Honestly, I was really surprised to learn that after a particular embarrassing photo surfaced, the incredibly talented actor – who was nominated for an Oscar! – decided to personally handle damage control during the press tour for “Project Hail Mary.” It sounds like he was deeply mortified and took things into his own hands to try and manage the situation.
In a March Instagram video, Gosling explained he was making a last-ditch effort to repair his La La Land prop hand, with help from a friend named Rocky. He then showed how the prop was originally meant to look, using a puppet to stand in for Stone.
Damien Chazelle’s “La La Land” received 14 Academy Award nominations and won six, including awards for Emma Stone as lead actress and for Chazelle as director. There was a memorable mistake during the awards ceremony when it was briefly announced as the winner of best picture, before “Moonlight” was correctly named the winner.
So, I just heard some really exciting news! Apparently, Marc Platt, the producer behind the movie, and Lionsgate are working on a Broadway musical version. They’re aiming for an August 16th opening, and from what I gather, it’s going to be a full-blown, spectacular show – everything’s lined up perfectly, if you know what I mean!
