Ryan Gosling to star in new film from ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ directors

Now that “Project Hail Mary” is gaining momentum, Ryan Gosling is already focusing on his next big movie. He’s set to star in a new film directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, the team behind “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” according to Deadline.

Universal Pictures is starting production on a new movie this summer in Los Angeles, with a planned release date of November 19, 2027. The story is currently being kept secret. 2027 is shaping up to be a big year for Ryan Gosling, as he’s also starring in Shawn Levy’s “Star Wars: Starfighter,” which comes out in May.

This marks Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert’s first directing job since their film “Everything Everywhere All at Once” dominated the 2022 Academy Awards. They won Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay.

The news arrives as “Project Hail Mary” is performing incredibly well in theaters, earning $140.9 million globally since its release last weekend. This is Amazon MGM Studios’ biggest theatrical opening to date and the second-highest opening for a non-sequel or franchise film since Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer.”

In ‘Project Hail Mary,’ saving the galaxy requires a hopeful, nerdy Ryan Gosling

Following the success of “Across the Spider-Verse,” the directing duo Lord and Miller now send Ryan Gosling on a humorous and uplifting journey through space, celebrating the best qualities of people.

Ryan Gosling unexpectedly showed up at a screening of “Project Hail Mary” in New York City on its opening night. He shared with the audience that when he first got the script six years ago, during the COVID-19 pandemic when movie theaters were closed, making a film like this felt like an impossible task.

Gosling described the project as the most ambitious of his career, something he felt compelled to pursue. After six years of work, they finally completed it, and now it’s back in theaters. He emphasized that it’s the filmmakers’ responsibility to create compelling content that encourages audiences to return to the cinema, not the audience’s job to keep theaters afloat.

This film marks the first time Kwan and Scheinert have directed a project since signing a five-year deal with Universal Pictures in 2022, alongside their producing partner Jonathan Wang. When the deal was announced, Universal’s chairman, Donna Langley, expressed the studio’s excitement about collaborating with them on this creative journey.

According to Langley, the Daniels are incredibly original filmmakers with a unique style that immediately stands out. Despite having only made two feature films so far, they’ve demonstrated immense potential and are just beginning to explore their capabilities.

Universal Pictures has assigned Sara Scott, Executive Vice President of Production Development, and Jacqueline Garell, Director of Development, to manage the project.
