Ryan Gosling Joins ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ – The Ultimate Sci-Fi Adventure!

The movie titled ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’, helmed by Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Gosling, is a self-contained story. It’s set around five years after the events in 2019’s ‘Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker. Production for this new adventure, featuring entirely fresh characters, will start this Fall. This film explores a time period that hasn’t been depicted on screen before.

Shawn Levy has recently achieved success with his Marvel film featuring Deadpool and Wolverine, demonstrating his expertise in large-scale franchise production. Additionally, he has honed his skills in creating family-friendly movies, a skill that aligns well with the Star Wars brand. His filmography includes writing and directing films like Cheaper by the Dozen, The Pink Panther, Night at the Museum, Date Night, Free Guy, and The Adam Project, as well as episodes of Stranger Things. Now, Levy will be taking on the roles of both writer and director for Star Wars: Starfighter.

Recently, Ryan Gosling appeared in the 2024 hit film “Barbie,” a role that earned him nominations for both an Oscar and a Golden Globe. His charisma reminds one of Han Solo from “Star Wars,” and it’s not hard to see why; he shared the screen with Harrison Ford in Denis Villeneuve’s acclaimed sci-fi production, “Blade Runner: 2049.”

Ryan Gosling was the lead actor in the 2024 blockbuster “Barbie,” a performance that landed him nominations for both an Oscar and a Golden Globe. His on-screen presence has a resemblance to Han Solo from “Star Wars,” which makes him an ideal candidate for a future “Star Wars” project; he also worked alongside Harrison Ford in the sci-fi masterpiece, “Blade Runner: 2049,” directed by Denis Villeneuve.

‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ Is a Classic Video Game

Given the title, it seems quite plausible that the movie will be influenced by the 2001 LucasArts video game with the same name, set amidst the Battle of Naboo. The story revolves around a band of starfighter pilots striving to thwart an invasion of Naboo. Throughout the game, various characters’ viewpoints are presented, such as Rhys Dallows, a pilot from the Naboo Royal Space Fighter Corps; Vana Sage, a character hired by the Trade Federation; Reti, a Toydarian; and Nym, a pirate of the Feeorin species. It appears that Gosling might be portraying Rhys Dallows in the upcoming film.

IGN describes the plot in this way:

The narrative primarily unfolds beyond the happenings of “The Phantom Menace” and serves as a prelude to the climactic events on the planet Naboo. Our trio of pilots – Rhys, Vana, and Nym – embark on a unique series of missions that will subtly correlate with significant instances from “The Phantom Menace”, such as the battle against the Droid Control Ship. Rhys Dallows is a former Naboo fighter pilot who was orphaned when a meeting with the Trade Federation turned sour, while Vana Sage was once a pilot but now works as a mercenary for the Federation before being betrayed. Similar circumstances place her in a similar position to space pirate Nym, whose base was destroyed following the theft of a Federation freighter. As the game progresses, these characters join forces to contribute to the conflict that eventually resolves on Naboo.

Each one of them possesses unique vessels – Rhys owns a Naboo N-1 Starfighter, Vana has a Guardian Mantis, and Nym commands a Havoc muscle ship. Rhys’ Starfighter boasts standard laser cannons and proton torpedoes, making it the fastest among them. Compared to the others, Vana’s Guardian Mantis stands out for its exceptional maneuverability, packing sensor-guided Nano missiles and Ion-compatible sensor tags that work synergistically. On the other hand, Nym controls the slowest but strongest ship, as it is equipped with dual triple-laser cannons, energy bombs, and a Plasma Scourge.

It remains to be seen how much the movie resembles the game, but with Levy and Gosling on board, it’s certain to spark enthusiasm among Star Wars enthusiasts.
