Ryan Gosling is a big admirer of Deidre Hall, and he recently showed his support by visiting her on the set of Days of Our Lives, after she invited him.
Ryan Reynolds, 45, posted a video to his wife Eva Mendes’ Instagram account—he doesn’t have his own—where he shared that Paul Rudd is his biggest influence as an actor.
Gosling responded with excited agreement to Deidre Hall’s invitation to visit her on set. He started by playfully asking, ‘Are you kidding me?’ before enthusiastically accepting. He looked stylish with blond hair, a beard, and cool sunglasses.
He explained he wanted to personally thank the person who originally inspired him to become an actor. He clarified it wasn’t a famous performance like Marlon Brando in On the Waterfront or Robert De Niro in Taxi Driver, but this person specifically. He also gratefully accepted their offer of help, saying he would be available whenever and wherever they needed him.
Fans were also able to see what the star was wearing – a casual outfit featuring a blue baseball cap and a gray Harley-Davidson sweatshirt. He had recently shared how his daughters inspired his work on the movie, Project Hail Mary.
As birds chirped in the trees, he continued speaking, thanking Joshua Horowitz. Horowitz had unintentionally started the good-natured conversation between Gosling and Hall by talking about soap operas with the actor on his ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast the previous week.
Gosling also expressed his gratitude to Josh Horowitz for his role in making everything possible, playfully calling him a ‘magical guy’ who’s quickly learning the ropes. He joked that Horowitz might not have known certain things before, but he does now.
The actor jokingly mentioned the difficult experiences Marlena, a character played by Deidre Hall on Days of Our Lives, faced – not just once, but twice involving supernatural events.
In a memorable plotline from 1995, Marlena was hypnotized and drugged by Stefano DiMera (Joseph Mascolo) and then taken over by the Devil. The character experienced demonic possession once more in 2021.
Gosling joked that he wasn’t concerned about a particular item, saying he’d simply say a prayer on the way. He playfully promoted his new film, which had a very successful opening weekend, earning $140 million globally. He finished by saying he’d be alright and looked forward to seeing everyone on set.
Gosling made the video as a playful reply to Hall’s enthusiastic reaction after Gosling had complimented her on a podcast interview with Horowitz.
Ryan Gosling pointed out that soap opera actors often don’t receive the appreciation they deserve. He explained they have to memorize a huge amount of dialogue – around ten pages – overnight, perform it in just one take, and often deal with incredibly outlandish storylines, like the possession of a character such as Marlena, played by Deidre Hall.
The popular story gained traction in the 1990s, as The X-Files brought supernatural, science fiction, and horror stories to a wide television audience.
Gosling remembered thinking his co-star, Deidre Hall, was fantastic, even while playing a possessed character. He said he ‘loved it’ and was impressed by her ability to convincingly portray possession, remarking that it seemed like a demanding role for any actress.
The actor known for The Notebook once stopped watching the show for a while, simply because he needed to focus on his personal life.
He noticed a rerun that felt oddly familiar. “I saw it on television, and she was possessed again! It’s strange how my life keeps coinciding with times when Deidre Hall plays a possessed character,” he explained.
Hall, 78, shared the video on Instagram, excitedly exclaiming, ‘Oh my gosh, what fun!’ She also mentioned the podcast clip quickly spread around the set of Days of Our Lives.
Hall shared that they listened to the song both while getting ready in the dressing room and during makeup, and expressed their excitement and gratitude for the positive recognition. She added that they put a lot of effort into their work, something the interviewer had already noted.
Then she welcomed Gosling to come to the set, hinting that he could shoot a scene with her.
Hall extended an open invitation to visit the Days of Our Lives set, saying they’d be happy to show visitors around.
She added, ‘Nobody will be possessed. And if they are, I’ll keep an eye on you.’
Hall has played Dr Marlena Evans on Days of Our Lives for 50 years, joining the soap opera in 1976.
Ryan Gosling recently stated that it’s Hollywood’s responsibility to ensure movie theaters stay successful, explaining that filmmakers need to focus on making films people actually want to experience in theaters.
He described receiving the manuscript for Project Hail Mary six years ago as the start of his most ambitious project yet – one that initially seemed impossible. He felt compelled to try, and after six years of work, they succeeded, he told Variety.
Now that theaters are open again, it’s up to us filmmakers to create movies people want to see – not the theaters’ responsibility to stay afloat. We need to give audiences a reason to choose the cinema.
Get ready for an amazing adventure to another galaxy! This movie is packed with friendship, excitement, and a quest to save the stars – it’s perfect for you. Sit back and enjoy!
