Ryan Coogler Reveals Ironheart’s Wild Blend of 3 Iconic MCU Projects!

In the words of Ryan Coogler, the esteemed director of “Black Panther” and an executive producer for “Ironheart”, he believes that the forthcoming Disney+ series will rival some of the most cherished corners within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He has drawn parallels between “Ironheart” and three highly acclaimed MCU projects.

In an interview, Coogler outlined how the character Ironheart will meld the gritty reality found in MCU’s street-level series with the franchise’s otherworldly elements. Coogler stated, “Riri Williams converses with a show like Daredevil, where characters – whether heroes or villains – struggle to get by using what they have.” He further added, “Add to that the cosmic side of Marvel, featuring characters who belong in shows like Doctor Strange and WandaVision. The mix of street-level Marvel and mystical Marvel is truly extraordinary.

Interestingly, Coogler does not link Ironheart to Black Panther or Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, despite Dominique Thorne’s character Riri Williams making her first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) within the latter. The forthcoming Disney+ series, however, will delve into events post-Wakanda Forever, focusing on Thorne’s young inventor, Riri, as she revisits her hometown of Chicago with aspirations to make a global impact. The official synopsis for Ironheart reveals that Riri’s innovative approach to constructing iron suits is captivating, but her pursuit of ambitions leads her into the company of the enigmatic and charming Parker Robbins, alias ‘The Hood.’ This will mark the finale of Phase 5 in the MCU.

Ironheart Stars Want to Fight Doctor Doom

In simple terms, the character Ironheart explores themes of technology versus magic. Riri Williams embodies technology, while Parker Robbins (portrayed by Anthony Ramos) symbolizes magic. For now, Ironheart is Ramos’ only confirmed role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he has hinted at desiring a collaboration between his character, the Hood, and Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.

In another development, Thorne expresses eagerness to fight alongside the Avengers against Doctor Doom. He comments, “Well, who wouldn’t? It’s just another example of how fantastic the MCU is – you think you’ve seen it all, and then there’s even more!” Regarding Ironheart in Doomsday, Thorne shares this perspective.

In addition to Thorne and Ramos, Joe McGillicuddy plays Joe, Lyric Ross portrays Natalie Washington, Matthew Elam is Xavier Washington, Anji White takes on Ronnie Williams, Manny Montana stars as Cousin John, and Shea Couleé appears as Slug. Jim Rash reprises his role from Captain America: Civil War as the Dean of MIT. The ensemble cast includes Harper Anthony, Zoe Terakes, Regan Aliyah, Shakira Barrera, Rashida “Sheedz” Olayiwola, Sonia Denis, Paul Calderón, and Cree Summer, with their roles yet to be specified. Sacha Baron Cohen is expected to join the cast of Ironheart as Mephistor, but specific details about his character have not been revealed as of now.

The premiere on Disney+ on June 24.
