Fans of Ruth Jones’s new BBC historical drama, The Other Bennet Sister, will be pleased to know it’s coming out soon! A first look at the series has also been released in the form of a trailer.
The series captures the feel of Pride and Prejudice and tells the story through the eyes of Mary Bennet, the often-overlooked middle sister from Jane Austen’s novel.
The BBC has announced the premiere of its new 10-episode series on Sunday, March 15th at 8pm on BBC One. The first five episodes will also be available on BBC iPlayer starting at 6am that same day. Each week, two episodes will air on TV, and the final five episodes will be released online on March 29th. You can watch the first trailer above.

Featuring Ella Bruccoleri, known from Bridgerton, this story is based on Janice Hadlow’s novel. It begins at the Bennet family’s home, Longbourn, where Mary chooses a life different from her sisters, who are focused on finding love and success in society.
After leaving her family home, Longbourn, Mary travels to London to stay with her Aunt and Uncle Gardiner in their beautiful house on Gracechurch Street. While there, she starts to find herself and take control of her own life.
What to Read Next
Imelda Staunton takes on the role of Mrs. Bennet, while Richard E. Grant, known from Saltburn, will play Mr. Bennet. The cast also includes Indira Varma (Game of Thrones), Richard Coyle (The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Laurie Davidson (The Girlfriend), and Dónal Finn (The Wheel of Time).
So, the game takes place in a world you probably already know and love, but we’re doing something totally different with it. We’re focusing on Mary’s story – it’s all about growing up when you feel like you don’t quite fit in, and figuring out where you belong. It’s a really relatable theme, honestly – that search for your place in the world.

Growing up in Croydon, my life was worlds away from the one Jane Austen wrote about. However, her stories have a timeless quality that appeals to everyone, no matter their age or background, and we’re thrilled to share the Bennet family with a new generation of readers.
This novel captures the essence of Pride and Prejudice while also offering something fresh and enjoyable for longtime fans and new readers alike.
This series is a lead-up to Netflix’s upcoming reimagining of Pride and Prejudice, starring Emma Corrin, Jack Lowden, and Olivia Colman, which will be released later this year.
The Other Bennet Sister will premiere on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Sunday, 15 March.
