Russell Howard is a DAD! Comedian, 44, reveals he's welcomed a son with his doctor wife Cerys as he swaps gigging for parenting

As a lifestyle expert with years of experience under my belt, I must say that Russell Howard‘s life transformation from a stand-up comedian to a doting father is nothing short of inspiring. The man has truly found his calling in becoming a dad, swapping the bright lights and thunderous applause for the cozy confines of home and the adorable gurgles of his newborn son.

Russell Howard recently disclosed that he’s become a father – having welcomed a son into the world three months back together with his wife, Cerys Morgan.

In a fresh interview over the weekend, the humorist (aged 44) revealed that he’s been trading comedy performances for parenthood duties in the past few months.

In June 2019, Cerys got married to Russell. She is a geriatric doctor, and the couple has recently relocated from London to Buckinghamshire to kickstart their family life together.

“Six months ago, I’d typically spend my nights preparing for a performance in front of a crowd of a thousand. Now, my evenings are spent relaxing on the couch, enjoying TV time with my son snuggled up against me.”

Being a parent has been an incredible journey full of joy and love for my little one. However, I must admit that it hasn’t all been smooth sailing. It seems like everyone is quick to compliment me on my baby, which is heartwarming, but they don’t hesitate to share their honest opinions about my appearance. I find myself often feeling exhausted and rundown, and it can be disheartening when people comment on how I look. It feels like my face should be on a government watchlist for lack of sleep! But despite the occasional harsh words, I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything else in the world.

‘So I try to get sleep whenever I can. Right now, I need it.’

Back in the year 2004, at the tender ages of 20 and 24 respectively, I found myself starting a romantic journey with Russell. Fast forward to the festive season of 2018, our engagement was officially announced on Alan Carr’s Chatty Man show, marking a significant milestone in our relationship.

Amidst the pandemic, I, a dedicated follower, decided to cut short my six-month career hiatus and rejoin the NHS frontlines to contribute towards combating the coronavirus crisis.

2020 found me eagerly mapping out a six-month travel odyssey, only to find myself back at work tweeting: “Just three weeks and two days, and my long-held dream of a career break has come crashing down.”

‘Today I am returning to support the NHS family.

‘Happy playlist on. Wish me luck!!!’

Cerys worked at West Middlesex University Hospital in Hounslow, London, at the time.

In August 2020, Russell drew attention when he walked off stage during a performance due to someone in the audience recording him with their phone.

As the comedian was delivering fresh stand-up routines on the open-air balcony of the Bambalan bar in Bristol, he spotted a woman filming him around the five-minute mark into his act.

He told the woman it was the worst thing she could do and said she should ‘live in the moment’.

After that, the performer pulled out his phone as if to record her, posing a question about how she’d feel if someone were recording her during work hours.

He said comedians were a ‘dying breed’ because they worried people will film unseen or controversial content and post it online.

But eventually he turned to the woman and said: ‘You’ve ruined it now’.

‘I was really looking forward to this gig.’

Then he apologised to everyone and, grabbed his backpack from behind the stage area and left.

Instead, the woman explained to the crowd that she was merely capturing photos and videos, similar to what many others had already done.

But a man shouted back: ‘You were filming the whole f***ing thing’.

“Mark Olver, both event organizer and host, stepped back onto the stage and admitted, ‘I’m honestly at a loss for words.'”

But he soon recovered the situation and the evening ended off with everyone laughing.

A representative for Russell Howard stated previously: ‘For any comedian, recording their act during a new material night can be disruptive. Live performances, especially during these unusual times, are meant exclusively for the audience in the room.’
