Russell Crowe’s cult horror movie is now on Netflix

Russell Crowe’s cult horror movie The Pope’s Exorcist is now available to watch on Netflix.

Under the guidance of director Julius Avery, the 2023 movie is inspired by the true account of Father Gabriele Amorth, a Catholic cleric renowned for conducting over 100,000 exorcisms on behalf of the Vatican.

In this movie, Crowe portrays Father Amorth, a character who journeys to a Spanish monastery to tackle an instance of supernatural possession occurring within its walls.

If you didn’t catch the movie when it was first released in theaters or are keen for another viewing, you’ll be delighted to know that it became available on Netflix in the UK and Ireland as of today, January 19.

Although widely beloved by horror enthusiasts, the film “The Pope’s Exorcist” garnered generally unfavorable opinions from critics upon its debut.

The movie received a rating of 50% on Rotten Tomatoes based on more than 100 reviews. The general consensus among critics, as stated on the site, is that “The Pope’s Exorcist” is a typical blend of religious and horror themes, but its lead actor’s powerful performance might just meet the expectations of some viewers who are looking for something spiritual in their entertainment.

The audience score is much more positive, though, with a strong rating of 80%.

Last year, it was confirmed that The Pope’s Exorcist will be getting a sequel.
