Russell Brand’s Oxfordshire pub venture has failed to win over local peer – after antagonising residents with plans to convert the 800-year-old bar into offices
As a seasoned journalist with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the resilience and vitality displayed by these women is truly inspiring.
In a twist as captivating as any plotline, my journey – from a comedian known for his raunchy humor to a self-proclaimed ‘thought leader’ and devout Christian – even garnered a heartfelt embrace this year, during my baptism in the Thames, not by just anyone, but survival expert Bear Grylls himself.
As a follower, it appears that Russell Brand has not managed to gain the approval of William Stonor, the 8th Lord Camoys, a contemporary of Bear Grylls from Eton College. This esteemed gentleman hails from the historic Stonor Park, a place where generations of the Stonor family have resided since before the Norman Conquest.
Brand, aged 49, joined the county’s elite more recently, buying a six-bedroom property with a view of the Thames for approximately £3.3 million back in 2016.
50-year-old Camoys may have chosen to keep his distance from the recent arrival. However, in 2020, Brand, currently under investigation by the Metropolitan Police over historical sexual misconduct allegations that he denies, expanded his real estate holdings to include a centuries-old pub, The Crown, situated in the village of Pishill, merely a mile away from Stonor.
Afterward, he managed to upset the locals by attempting to change an 800-year-old pub into a recording studio and office space. This move sparked numerous protests. His initial plans were rejected – leading Brand to make another attempt, this time proposing that The Crown serve as both a pub and a media studio, offices, and event hall.
However, Lord Camoys firmly disagrees with this notion. In a scholarly critique of Brand’s second venture, he emphasizes in a written correspondence to the local council that upon purchasing The Crown, Brand had made a commitment to maintain the pub’s operations.
Since that time, the peer mentions, he has shown no intention of revisiting the matter. Consequently, the newly proposed plans are contingent upon the pub being marketed and leased under terms that support its continued use as a public house. Until such conditions are met, any part of it cannot be used for office work or other purposes. In this case, if these conditions aren’t satisfied, the application should be denied.
The Lord has most certainly spoken…
Give us a twirl, Lady Forsyth
Lady Wilnelia, Sir Bruce Forsyth’s wife, expressed that she wouldn’t participate in Strictly Come Dancing while he was still alive, as she believed that her husband might not have handled the judges’ criticisms gracefully.
Even seven years following his 2017 passing at the age of 89, Wilnelia continues to display her potential as a serious competitor for the coveted Glitterball Trophy.
At her 67th birthday party held recently in Puerto Rico, where she originates, the ex-Miss World is captured on camera demonstrating her finest dance steps.
Undoubtedly, following her inheritance of nearly all of Sir Bruce’s 11.5 million pounds, it appears that Lady Forsyth is resolute on continuing her passion for dance!
Lady Antonia’s family fears
Two years ago, following a fall that required her to spend Christmas in the hospital, Lady Antonia Fraser’s loved ones harbored concerns for her wellbeing. Remarkably, at the ripe age of 92, this esteemed historian is set to release a new book.
Entitled “Patchwork Pieces,” this vibrant memoir chronicles her life journey, starting as the daughter of the 7th Earl of Longford. Initially known as “The Diary Of A Jolly Old Lady,” she opted for a change, stating, “I found the humorous title appealing, but decided to move away from it.
Dating’s just the Pitts, says Tamzin
Tamzin Outhwaite has announced that she’s done with relationships with men and is instead opting for solitude following her separation from her younger boyfriend, Tom Child, a detail I shared last month.
The New Tricks star, 53, insists even Brad Pitt would be given the brush-off if he sought a date.
The actress, as shown on the left, expresses that she spent a marvelous six and a half years with Tom,” she shares, referring to someone who is twenty years younger than herself.
‘This breakup was remarkably considerate, courteous, and compassionate. Just thinking about going on a date sends shivers down my spine due to the discomfort it brings, regardless if someone as charming as Brad Pitt asks me out. My response would probably be something along the lines of “No”.’
Osmond stays squeaky clean
In a recent development, Jay Osmond, the member from the spotless American musical group, The Osmonds, has drawn a line regarding explicit language in the upcoming stage production titled ‘Now That’s What I Call A Musical’, which is being directed by Craig Revel Horwood, known for Strictly Come Dancing.
Similar to his family, drummer and vocalist Osmond, aged 69, is deeply committed to his Mormon faith. Speaking about the play he’s appearing in this week, he quotes his parents by saying, “You should exist within the world, but you don’t need to align with its ways.” This production certainly embodies that philosophy.
Step back for TV historian Lucy?
Lucy Worsley, famed for her historically accurate costumes in television documentaries, has decided to step down from her role that she’s occupied for the last two decades within the royal sphere.
50-year-old Worsley expresses: “I’ve been fortunate to work alongside exceptional colleagues, particularly during my tenure as the chief curator at Historic Royal Palaces. However, I yearn for greater moments with my friends through our Lady Killers podcast.
King’s budget preview
As Chancellor Rachel Reeves puts the finishing touches to her first Budget, one man has been given a sneak preview.
It is said that King Charles had an encounter with Reeves at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday. One might ponder if the topic of potential reductions in the royal budget came up during their discussion.
With hereditary peers to be abolished, how long before Labour moves on to hereditary monarchs?
