Running to that bank… pop icon Kate Bush’s £10.8million windfall from Stranger Things hit song

Kate Bush has earned £10.8 million due to the recent surge in popularity of her song ‘Running Up That Hill,’ which was featured in the TV show Stranger Things.

This will earn her another significant amount of money, four decades after the song first came out, because it’s being used again in the show’s final episode on New Year’s Eve.

Originally released in 1985 and reaching number 3 in the UK charts, the song became a worldwide hit in 2022 after being featured in a popular Netflix series. Billboard, a leading US chart provider, named it the top song of the year globally.

Then, it was reported that Ms Bush had earned around £1.9 million in streaming royalties.

Recent financial reports for the musician’s publishing company, Noble & Brite, indicate that this was just the beginning of a larger trend.

The company’s wealth has grown dramatically, jumping from £2.1 million in 2022 to £12.9 million this March. This means they’ve earned nearly £10,000 each day during that time, largely thanks to the popularity of their song featured in Stranger Things.

Ms. Bush, who generally keeps to herself, expressed her astonishment at the song’s recent popularity in an interview with Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour. She said she hoped the track would be noticed because she loved the show it was featured in, but she never expected it to become such a phenomenon. She described the response as ‘extraordinary’ and ‘quite shocking.’

In the show Stranger Things, Max Mayfield, a character dealing with loss, finds power and resilience through listening to the song “Running Up That Hill,” which helps her confront supernatural threats.

Unlike many artists her age, Kate Bush, 67, still fully owns the rights to her music – both the songwriting and the recordings themselves. This means she directly benefits from every time her songs are streamed, downloaded, or played on the radio.

Paul Mescal, the actor, has been turning heads while jogging in a park in north London, thanks to his very short running shorts.

Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe this! The actor who’s going to be Paul McCartney in the new Beatles movie? He’s bought a house near me! A £2.2 million house! And I’ve actually seen him running around the neighborhood! It’s amazing, I can’t even tell you. I keep hoping I’ll bump into him and be able to tell him how perfect he is for the role. Seriously, it’s a dream come true just knowing he’s nearby!

Mel stays on track

Mel C, who famously toured the world with the Spice Girls, says she wouldn’t want her 16-year-old daughter, Scarlett, to travel the world as she did when she was younger.

‘I have a tracker on my phone. I know where she is 24/7,’ says the star.

‘The thought of her going off and doing her thing!’

Melanie Chisholm, known as Sporty Spice, is watching over Scarlett, whose father is the ex-partner of Mel B. Interestingly, Melanie’s own parents were much more relaxed when she was touring with her band.

‘It was insane,’ she said. ‘I spoke to my mum once a week on a payphone.’

How the modern world is different from Spice World!

People at the Garrick Theatre in London’s West End were shocked last week when a large stage prop fell during a performance of the musical, The Producers.

Let me tell you, things got a little awkward at the theatre last night! Right in the middle of the show, the curtain had to come down for about ten minutes. And honestly, you could feel the audience getting restless – many of us had spent anywhere from £75 to £158 on those tickets, so nobody wanted a break in the action! It was a bit of a squirm-fest in the seats, I won’t lie.

Talk about bringing the house down!

Lily Collins rings the ch-ch-changes

Okay, so everyone knows my ultimate idol is Lily Collins, and honestly? It totally makes sense she’s amazing. Her dad’s Phil Collins, a legend, obviously! But I’ve been noticing, and it’s SO cool, she seems to get a lot of her inspiration from David Bowie! Like, it just fits her vibe, you know? It explains so much about her style and creativity! I’m obsessed with the connection!

The actress, known for her role in the popular Netflix show Emily in Paris, shared some photos from the set. She channeled a retro, New Wave look with bright blonde hair and striking blue eyeshadow.

She’s a star, man!

Is the King living in the most haunted town in England?

Locals in Tetbury claim the Cotswolds village is overrun with ghosts.

People living near King Charles’s Highgrove home have shared stories of ghostly sightings. They describe a ‘headless horseman,’ a ‘Victorian coachman walking with a cane,’ and a friendly ghost named Arthur ‘who sits at the top of the stairs’ in a nearby hotel.

‘He’s a bit of a prankster really,’ says one staffer of the apparition.

Makes a change from Charles being haunted by his own relatives, I suppose…

Three cheers for Margot

The Bull pub in Charlbury is becoming a hotspot for celebrities, as David Beckham and Jeremy Clarkson were recently spotted enjoying a Guinness together on Boxing Day.

I doubt anyone was as generous as Margot Robbie, the Barbie actress, who treated everyone at a pub in the Cotswolds to a drink.

Now that’s what I call the spirit of Christmas!

Nighy gets very picky

I hope nobody bothered Bill Nighy with unwanted food during the Christmas season, because he definitely wouldn’t have been pleased!

Bill Nighy has prohibited certain words he considers offensive from being used on his podcast, ‘Ill-Advised by Bill Nighy,’ and those two words are specifically not allowed.

Champers, holibobs, Xmas and PIBs – short for pigs in blankets – also get short shrift.
