Run Sweetheart Run star Ella Balinska to lead apocalypse horror film Monsters

As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for immersive storytelling and a soft spot for strong female leads, I am beyond excited about the upcoming horror film “Monsters” starring Ella Balinska. Having followed her career from “Run Sweetheart Run,” through “Resident Evil,” to her recent roles in “Charlie’s Angels” and “Skincare,” it’s evident that she has a knack for portraying complex characters under high-stress situations.

Following her spellbinding performance in “Run Sweetheart Run”, Ella Balinska is venturing into the chilling realm of horror yet another time, this time spearheading the impending apocalyptic horror movie titled “Monsters”. Similar to “Run Sweetheart Run”, she will be placed in a situation where she must escape from a dreadful peril once more.

Glenise Mullins, renowned for her work on TV series like Star Trek: Discovery, Surface, The Continental, Outer Range, and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, is responsible for penning the script and will also be in charge of directing. It’s expected that filming will commence around January 2025.

Moreover, the horror movie will be produced by James Harris and Mark Lane from Tea Shop Productions, along with David Whitney.

In a post-apocalyptic landscape teeming with ravenous, undead beings, the film Monsters chronicles the journey of a resilient mother and her two young daughters, navigating a treacherous 20-mile expanse. The role of the mother will be portrayed by Balinska; as of now, her character’s name remains undisclosed. At present, Balinska is the only cast member confirmed for this film. Updates on further cast members will be shared as they become available.

Previously noted, Balinska gained recognition for her role in the supernatural horror movie “Run Sweetheart Run”. She also portrayed Jade Wesker in the main character of the brief-lived Netflix action horror series “Resident Evil”. You might remember her from her part as Jane Kano in the action comedy film “Charlie’s Angels”. Her latest performance was in the thriller “Skincare”. Apart from “Monsters”, she will next appear in the romance movie “Marked Men”, scheduled for a release in early 2025.

As reported by Deadline, Voltage Pictures has procured the global distribution rights for the film titled “Monsters” and plans to initiate worldwide sales for this movie during the American Film Market, which is scheduled for November.

According to Deadline, here’s the CEO of Voltage Pictures sharing his thoughts on collaborating with Mullins and Balinska for this horror movie project:

We are thrilled to collaborate with such exceptional talent. Ella brings a unique blend of intensity and vulnerability to her roles, making her the perfect fit for this emotionally charged story. Glenise, with her remarkable storytelling expertise, has crafted a haunting vision that will captivate audiences worldwide. We couldn’t be more excited to bring their combined talents to the screen with Monsters.

Mullins shared her enthusiasm with Deadline about the opportunity to breathe life into her creative endeavors.

Monsters is a deeply personal story for me as a mother. It’s not just a harrowing tale of survival but an exploration of the raw, instinctual drive to protect those you love at any cost. Its themes are universal — love, sacrifice, and the enduring hope that fuels us, even in the face of overwhelming darkness.
