RUMOR: Studios Plan Massive Trailers to Drop Ahead of Avatar: Fire and Ash

If Avatar: Fire and Ash does well in theaters, as many expect, it’s a great chance for movie studios to show off trailers for their big 2026 releases. We haven’t seen much beyond some behind-the-scenes pictures for several of those highly anticipated films.

Although the exact trailers shown before movies differ depending on the theater and film format, industry experts generally know what audiences will likely see before the next ‘Avatar’ film.

Avengers: Doomsday

It’s highly likely we’ll get a first glimpse of the next Marvel Cinematic Universe film soon, and attaching a trailer to the movie Avatar: Fire and Ash would be a smart way to reach a large audience. Fans will probably first experience the new film, Doomsday, on a big screen, not just on their phones. After some recent box office disappointments for Marvel, Disney is hoping Doomsday will bring audiences back to theaters.

The directors of the last two Avengers movies, the Russo Brothers, are leading this huge new project. While everyone knows Robert Downey Jr. will be involved, he’s playing the villain Doctor Doom instead of the heroic Iron Man. Along with all the returning characters, Disney might also include a few hidden surprises to get fans excited.

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to arrive in theaters December 2026.

The Odyssey

Christopher Nolan is one of the few directors who consistently attracts audiences simply because of his involvement. However, even he could benefit from pairing his new film, The Odyssey, with a trailer shown before Avatar: Fire and Ash. This historical epic, adapted from Homer’s classic poem, was filmed using the very latest IMAX camera technology.

Empire magazine recently announced the impressive cast for the upcoming film, alongside Matt Damon as Odysseus. The movie will also feature major stars like Tom Holland, Charlize Theron, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, and Zendaya, as well as a number of exciting up-and-coming actors.

Although the movie The Odyssey won’t be released in theaters until next July, tickets for special 70mm IMAX showings went on sale months ago and quickly sold out.

Untitled Steven Spielberg Movie

Not much is public yet about Steven Spielberg’s upcoming movie, which finished filming earlier in 2024. However, according to insider Daniel Richtman, the first trailer will likely be shown to viewers of Avatar: Fire and Ash.

Steven Spielberg, known for his classic sci-fi films like Close Encounters of the Third Kind and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, is working on a potential UFO movie with his longtime screenwriter, David Koepp. Koepp revealed that Spielberg developed a detailed 50-page outline before passing it on, and that the director was more actively involved in the writing process than Koepp had seen in years.

David Koepp, the screenwriter and frequent collaborator of Steven Spielberg, recently discussed their new, currently untitled film. He said they finished filming about three weeks ago and described the movie as a deeply emotional experience.

The film stars Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, Colman Domingo, and Wyatt Russell.

Beyond the actors involved, the biggest surprise is that John Williams is returning from retirement to compose the music.

The movie lands in theaters June 2026

Final Thoughts

Just like the latest season of Stranger Things sparked widespread conversation online, Avatar: Fire and Ash has the potential to become a major talking point and shared experience for moviegoers.

As a huge movie fan, I’m really excited about the trailers shown before Avatar. It feels like they’re not just promoting other films, but actually building towards a whole slate of big event movies designed to get us all back into cinemas regularly. It’s a smart move, and I’m here for it!
