An exciting rumor about a potential Midnight Sons MCU movie has come to light.
In Marvel Comics, the Midnight Sons are a group of extraordinary heroes who specialize in battling supernatural forces. The original lineup consisted of characters like Blade, Morbius, Danny Ketch’s Ghost Rider, Johnny Blaze’s Ghost Rider, and others. However, over time, the team has undergone numerous changes, with different members joining and leaving.
For some time, there’s been talk about Marvel Studios developing a Midnight Sons film, but nothing’s been officially verified by the company yet. But with Sacha Baron Cohen making his MCU entrance as Mephisto in Ironheart, it seems this project might finally be picking up speed.
What is the latest update on the Midnight Sons movie?
As reported by Alex Perez from The Cosmic Circus, Marvel intends to transform Donny Cates and Nick Spencer’s Damnation limited series into an adaptation. In this tale, Mephisto seeks to establish Hell on Earth within Las Vegas. To achieve this, he alters the Avengers into beings resembling Ghost Rider, compelling Wong to gather the Midnight Sons in order to oppose him.
Mephisto has been secretly active for a long time within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), as Perez explains. His plan is to bind people who have interacted with him in some way, compelling them to serve him once he summons their souls. This transformation will result in these characters becoming demonic versions of themselves. Characters like The Hood and Ironheart are among those affected by this, but there may also be others we’re not yet familiar with.
Though the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) story won’t exactly replicate the original tale, it’ll draw heavily from those events. Mephisto intends to seize control of Earth and rule over Hell. This is why he appears in Ironheart, and we can expect more details about this as we approach the Blade movie, currently in development. Sources hint that Lilith could be a contender against Mephisto by the time Damnation unfolds. The objective is to eventually develop a supernatural storyline within the MCU, with Damnation leading to a Midnight Sons film.
At present, it’s just speculation, and if it turns out to be accurate, it might be some time before we see it, given that Marvel appears to be concentrating on the mutants of the X-Men for a while following the events of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
