Navigating social media currently can be challenging if your interests lie outside of Andor. Platforms like Twitter or X (whichever you fancy) are often crowded with skeptics, and a popular Mandoverse rumor recently received a lukewarm reception.
Through updates on Twitter from reliable source Daniel Richtman, there’s an unconfirmed whispersuggesting that Lucasfilm could potentially greenlight a trilogy for The Mandalorian series. If the show The Mandalorian and Grogu performs well, it might pave the way for additional films set in the same time frame. This is the second instance Richtman has mentioned Lucasfilm’s intent for a Mandalorian trilogy on the big screen. The latest rumors indicate plans for more movies during the New Republic era as fresh information.

As a devoted cinema enthusiast, I’m excited about the news that Dave Filoni is developing a crossover movie within the timeline of “The Mandalorian”. While it hasn’t been hinted at yet, there’s always room for more! If “The Mandalorian” expands into a trilogy, it would be fantastic to see future films delve deeper into characters like Boba Fett, Jod Na Nawood, Wim, Neel, Fern, KB, Ahsoka Tano, Hera Syndulla, Ezra Bridger, Sabine Wren, and many others. Here’s to hoping for an expansive Star Wars universe!
Despite the rumors floating around, there’s currently no official confirmation and probably won’t be any until ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ premieres sometime next year. If it proves successful or surpasses expectations, Lucasfilm might feel inclined to produce additional movies featuring Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin and the young Grogu. The course of action could also depend on Jon Favreau’s plans for these characters.
Jon Favreau, the creator of Djarin and Grogu (also known as Baby Yoda), has revealed his intentions for a fourth season of “The Mandalorian”. Initially, Favreau expressed hopes for the show to span at least five seasons, viewing Season 3 as the middle part of an extensive narrative. This implies that there are still untold stories left to be explored, potentially making their way onto the big screen, as it could prove more lucrative for Disney due to its box office potential.
As a devoted fan, I find it fascinating that Disney’s business model revolves around generating revenue, and the Star Wars franchise, with its captivating appeal, is one of their most effective tools for doing so. However, it’s surprising to see some fans expressing fatigue towards recurring appearances of characters like Din, Grogu, and Ahsoka in various shows.
I can’t help but wonder when these characters started losing favor among the fandom, as it seems to be a shift away from the excitement that originally surrounded them. Nonetheless, I remain optimistic about the potential for growth and improvement, especially with Dave Filoni having another opportunity to refine Ahsoka’s story in season 2. Who knows? We might just witness a rejuvenated response from fans.
To put it another way, it’s a bit unjustified to suggest that Din and Grogu are being deliberately withheld from fans, given that The Mandalorian season 3 concluded in April 2023, almost three years have passed since then, and there has been no official word about the next Star Wars movie. Fans of the series have been patiently waiting for updates since the film was announced over a year ago, but the lack of communication from the Star Wars official social media accounts leaves them feeling overlooked on the fifth anniversary of The Mandalorian’s premiere on Disney+.
Fans were eagerly anticipating an official trailer for next year’s Mando movie at the recent Destination D23 event, but unfortunately, they left disappointed. Disney only screened the same footage from Star Wars Celebration 2025, and to add insult to injury, they didn’t release it online either.
Essentially, it’s important to clarify that fans aren’t being compelled to watch shows like The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, or projects within the Mandoverse. It’s just that Lucasfilm has plans for Star Wars movies set in different time periods, and at this point, they haven’t made any efforts to publicize next year’s film release. So, the uproar over an unverified speculation seems rather surprising.
The Mandalorian and Grogu premieres May 22, 2026.
